Although the trailer consisted mainly of cinematic scenes, a brief glimpse of gameplay can be seen towards the end of the footage. It shows characters gliding gracefully and smoothly over sand dunes, exploring vast ancient caverns with impressive draw distances, and summoning a range of melee weapons such as spears and daggers to fight various types of enemies, including crab-like creatures and monsters encased in frozen crystals.

In aninterview with RPGFan, Deck13 developers discussed more details about the combat mechanics, revealing that characters in Atlas Fallen will not rely on traditional weapons. Instead, they will harness the power of magical gauntlets to control the sand around them and shape it into various transformable weapons. As a result, players will not have to switch between weapons, and the transition between weapon forms will be fluid and combo-driven.

Also, as players chain combos together, a Momentum Bar gradually fills up, energizing the gauntlet and resulting in increased damage output and additional abilities that will provide an exhilarating sense of overwhelming power during combat.

Atlas Fallen also features The Surge’sbody targeting system, according to the interview, which allows players to focus their attacks on specific parts of the enemy’s body, increasing tactical options and affecting the enemy’s reaction based on the area targeted. In addition, the implant system, similar to the mods seen inDestiny, will be reintroduced to increase the variety of RPG customization.
