Square Enixhas revealed the newest trailer for its fantasy action RPGFinal Fantasy XVI. This is the third promotional trailer we have seen so far, after the latest trailer,DOMINANCE, was shown four months ago duringSony’s State of Play Event. The new trailer is age-restricted and can’t be viewed away from YouTube, but you may watch ithere.
The new trailer mainly introduces the worldview of the work. Making up the main core of the story are the Eikons, mythical beings who manifest through humans called dominants, as shown in the previous trailer. With the newest trailer, titled Ambition, we finally took a closer look at the five holders of the Dominant position and the nations over which they reign. It seems each nation is driven by a certain powerful sentiment, like preserving tradition or limitless ambition to challenge and conquer the other nations and dominants.

The topography of each nation bears striking differences, and it seems there is a lot that lies in wait for adventure fans, between the shifting sands of the Dhalmekian Republic, the melting lava of the Iron Kingdom, or the heavenly ice glacier of the Sanbreque holy empire. Two new Dominant characters were also introduced — The Dominant of Eikon Bahamut, Dion League, and the Dominant of Eikon Odin, Barnabas Tharmr. Each manipulates the immense power of the Eikons to fight for dominance of what’s left of their dying planet.
Producer Naoki Yoshida has left his owncommenton the development, saying it is in the final phases of debugging and polishing, and he sets up anticipation for the coming weeks, during which many interviews with multiple media outlets will be taking place worldwide. Director Hiroshi Takai has added that he is happy to reveal an in-depth look over the game’s setting and lore, in addition to the new characters who play a significant role in their compelling narrative.
The trailer also showcases the various types of battles player will encounter in Final Fantasy XVI, such as the normal action packed duels between dominant/Eikon holders, between their transformed Eikon form, or a mix of both. It also appears that there will be scripted attacks and cutscenes midbattle, which adds even more unique charm and flavor to the exhilarating battles of Final Fantasy XVI.
Final Fantasy XVI is slated for release exclusively on PlayStation5 in the summer of 2023.
