Final Fantasy X-3could happen one day according to a new Famitsu interview with the coreFFstaff at Square Enix.

This week’s issue ofFamitsuMagazine (officially titled the July 29-August 11, 2025 issue) includes 30 pages onFinal Fantasy 10to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the PS2 JRPG. These pages most notably include an interview with the key developers of the series, including Tetsuya Nomura and scenario writer Kazushige Nojima.

Final Fantasy X-3 - FFscenarist already wrote the story

In the Famitsu magazine interview, Tetsuya Nomura mentioned that ifFFX-3ever happens, Kazushige Nojima actually already wrote a rough draft for the story. He mentioned how they thought about planning a sequel when makingFinal Fantasy XWillandFinal Fantasy X-2.5Eien no Daisho. For nowFFX-3is a dormant project though.

Nomura also pointed out for fans who haven’t realized it yet that you can see older versions of Tidus and Yuna in the audio drama.

Lastly,Final Fantasy VII Remakeco-director Motomu Toriyama stated that ifFinal Fantasy X-3happens one day, it won’t be before they’re done with theFinal Fantasy VII Remakeproject.

Final Fantasy X-2.5, FFX Willexplained

Final Fantasy X-2.5Eien no Daisho(The price of Eternity) is a novel written by Kazushige Nojima and released in Japan on the same day asFinal Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, on August 02, 2025. You can find its cover below:

Final Fantasy X Willis a voice drama included inFinal Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster.It’s the sequel toX-2.5.It features two childhood friends: Chuami, the self-proclaimed daughter of Auron, and Kurgum, a young boy and a Sender who admires Yuna and her Guardians.

As pointed out by our peers atGame’s Talk, illustrations by Tetsuya Nomura from the audio drama were exhibited at the eventFF30th Anniversary Exhibition in 2018. You can see Tidus, Yuna, Chuami, and Kurgum.

Keep in mind all of this is from the usual Famitsumagazine leaks, who more often than not lack a lot of details. If time permits I will update this article with more details from the interview. After Famitsu magazine gets officially released digitally July 15 midnight JST.

This isn’t the first time Square Enix hints at an olderFinal Fantasygetting a new game. In another interview I translated, Kazushige Nojima also shared several thoughts on thescenario ofFF7,FF8and a possible newFF8game.
