Final Fantasy IXlaunched over 19 years ago and while it is not the most famous game in the series, it is certainlyone of the most beloved.2019 has been a good year forFinal Fantasy IXfans too, as the gamenot only released forNintendo Switch and Xbox One back in February, but will now be receiving a beefy 63-track tribute album titledEIDOLON: Music From Final Fantasy IXas well, courtesy of Materia Collective.
Materia Collective is known for creating tribute albums based on video games. In fact, they have already released ones centered aroundFinal Fantasy VII,which is getting a remake nextyear, andFinal Fantasy Tactics, which will be receiving a successor on mobile titledWar of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.As a tribute album, artists have collaborated to recreate 63 of the game’s songs. Artists likeFor the King’sJohn Robert Matz,Fossil Hunter’sRobby Duguay, and StringPlayerGamer are all contributing.

Emily McMillian and Joe Chen, Producers ofEIDOLON: Music From Final Fantasy IX,explained why they chose to tackle Final Fantasy XI next. “We thought the nextFinal Fantasycover album from Materia Collective was long overdue, and we both have a big love for theFinal Fantasy IXsoundtrack. As the game focuses so much on character development and connections, we wanted to celebrate those ideas with a theme of collaboration. Each track onEIDOLONis the work of multiple Materia Collective artists working together to develop their interpretations of the classic music ofFinal Fantasy IX.”
Some ofEIDOLON: Music From Final Fantasy IX’sinteresting interpretations include a jazz take on “The Final Battle,” a rock opera version of “Roses of May,” and a renaissance inspired arrangement of “A Place to Call Home.” If you are familiar with the soundtrack ofFinal Fantasy XI,it should certainly be interesting to hear new takes and several classic pieces from the game.EIDOLON: Music From Final Fantasy XIis now available, and thispage serves as a good portal to all of its storefronts.
