How To Upgrade Weapons
All weapons a character uses can be upgraded, but not in a traditional way. The weapon level of a character is more so theirweapon level for all weapons,as that level will carry over no matter what weapon they have equipped. GettingSP and leveling up a Weapon Levelof a character will give them access to differentbonuses that can be applied on any weaponto boost specific stats.
Each weapon a character uses has slightlydifferent upgrades to choose from, as each weapon has a different focus in terms of stats. Different bonuses for a weapon can also beunlocked through that character’s Folioand can be equipped with any of their weapons. In theUpgrade Weapons menu, players can automatically assign available upgradesbased on the playstyle they want to follow.
To manually upgrade a weapon, go into the Equipment And Materia menu andselect theMateriaoption on a character’s weapon.Along the bottom of the Materia slots will be theweapon upgrade slots, which can be implanted with various upgradesavailable for that weapon. These upgrades can beswitched as often as players would likeoutside of combat.

How To Increase Weapon Level
A character’sWeapon Level is increased as they earn SP.Five SP is earnedwhenever a character levels up,with players also able tobuy books for a specific character to increase only their SP.These books are often found at bookstores at Moogle Emporiums. While there are more uses to Folios than just weapon upgrades, players will need to upgrade them and their Party Level to get the most out of how strong their party can be.
Weapon Proficiency
Each weapon a character uses has its own unique Skill and Proficiency.While a weapon is equipped, that character has access to its skill, with them being able tomaster the proficiency of that weapon to permanently unlock its abilityand use it even without its designated weapon equipped. To do so, simply use a weapon’s unique Ability multiple times in combat until the Ability is mastered.
The number of times an Ability needs to be used to be mastered varies from weapon to weapon, and theprogress can be tracked in the Equipment And Materia menu.Whenin combatand using Abilities, the unique Ability for that weapon will have awhite dot next to the Ability name if it has not been mastered,helping players know which Ability needs to be used before switching to another weapon.
