In a break from our usual news about film and gaming, we have something pretty left field to announce to you, the wonderful supporters and fans of FandomWire! We’re heading to The Florida Man Games! If Gladiators were drunk, then you’d still be miles away from what The Florida Man Games is, so buckle up, we’ll clue you in!

What is The Florida Man Games?

The Florida Man Games are the epitome of art imitating real life, except if the art in question is the infamous meme about ‘The Florida Man’ found in numerous news headlines, usually with some insane story following.

Whereas many of those stories end in tragedy or doom and gloom,The Florida Man Gameslooks set to reclaim everything good about the phenomenon, with contestants entering the competition to bring some fun and joy to the situation.

In our case, ourHead Film Critic and Creative Content Co-Ordinator Joshua Ryanwill be entering the competition as part of a three-man team calledThe Cooter Commandos,and will be competing in several different tests to find out who is going to be the inaugural champions of The Florida Man Games.

So what exactly makes this any different from the Olympics I hear you ask? Well, unlike the Olympics, contestants are less likely to be at the height of fitness, and more likely to be deep into their second crate of all-American beer by the time they’re called up to participate in their latest event. Events are also a little less focused on showcasing the levels of human ability, and more so on accurately representing what ‘The Florida Man’ has come to be known for.

Events include the ‘Evading Arrest Obstacle Course’ which requires contestants to escape from ‘actual police offers to earn their freedom’, and instead of some Ninja Warrior escape course, they’ll be climbing over and through fences, backyards, and more – just like you see on the news at 6. A test of strength is the main factor in the ‘Weaponized Pool Noodle Mud Duel’, as contests presumably attempt to knock one another into a pool of mud, much like the podium and noodle event back on Gladiators back in the day.

Talking of Gladiators, The Florida Man Games isn’t pulling any punches, with the two referees involved with the competition being former Gladiators themselves, Dan “Nitro” Clark and Lori “Ice” Fetrick, and even though this may be a far cry from what they were involved in, there’s arguably no-one better to fairly and competently judge the ‘athletic’ endeavors that’ll be present.
