Hank’s Pin Looks Familiar

From Nuka-Colas and fridge hiding to playing Atomic Command on a Pip-Boy and Iguanas-on-a-stick, the Fallout TV show has not shied away from including as many gaming references in its episodes as possible. If you were wondering if there was a little sneaky Easter egg at the end of episode 8 where Hank MacLean, Lucy’s dad, enters a code onto the screen, yep, this is yet another callback to Bethesda’s very first game.

Lucy has to make her dad give up an important code that activates and powers up the cold fusion reactor and, as he keys the numbers in, Bethesda just couldn’t help themselves with making these figures actually mean something instead of random digits. 101097 is the release date of the original Fallout game back in October 1997, Fallout: A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game, where a global nuclear war between the United States and China devastated the world and destroyed modern civilizations.

Thanks to RedditorLolhatswho posted about the Fallout Easter egg, many fans can now stop wrecking their brains trying to figure out exactly what it meant. “Very nice sleuthing! I did a quick Google search on my phone, and nothing came up. Just knew it meant something. Nice job.” said commenter Valkarian_Wolf.

While there are sure to be even more callbacks and Easter eggs aplenty as fans inspect every scene in Fallout for hidden clues, it’s great to see how much time and dedication Bethesda and Westworld’s Jonathan Nolan has put into one of gaming’s most beloved franchises.
