Project Arroyo is a collaborative fan-made remake ofFallout 2inFallout 4’s creation engine. Development on the mod is full-steam ahead with the teamregularly posting updates on X(formerly Twitter) on the mod’s progress.
In aninterview with TheGamer, project lead Damien Daponte spoke about reimagining Fallout 2 as an open-world, fleshing out the game’s setting of San Francisco and how the team intends to handle the mod’s launch.

The Designer Of Shady Sands Isn’t Happy With The Fallout Show’s Treatment Of The Town
“They have no idea what they’re doing.”
“I’m leaning towards doing whatEnderal: Forgotten Storiesdid and putting it on Steam,” Daponte says. Enderal is a total conversion mod for Skyrim, an open world with an original narrative, with “believable characters and psychological undercurrents.”

Welcome to Arroyo
“It’s just a platform that everyone has. It’s easier to access, easier to update, easier to install. It’s just more efficient,” Daponte adds.
It’s certainly a prudent move, Nexus Mods isn’t the most efficient platform for a mod of this size that will surely need constant post-launch patching and tweaking.

“We would have to figure out all the specificities with that, making it so you require Fallout 2 and Fallout 4 and all of its DLC to get it to ensure there are no legal issues. But we’ll see - we’re still looking into it. I’m personally leaning towards Steam,” Daponte explains.
Thelast updateposted for Project Arroyo came on May 23 as concept art for a new original location, the Oakland Crater, was shared.

Project Arroyo is a massive undertaking, with over 100 volunteers currently working on the project. There is a ton of original content in the works, including voice acting for every character and an entirely original soundtrack, since the team can’t use the original because of copyright concerns.
There is no planned release date for Project Arroyo but the mod is progressing steadily.
