Hiro Mashima wrote on Twitter: “I clearedRyu Ga Gotoku 7! The story is really intense, and it’s probably my favorite story in the series so far. And I loved every single character. It’s a masterpiece!”
By now, some of our readers might be wondering why this article exists. I mean, this isn’t the first time a mangaka mentioned they liked something on Twitter. This happens all the time. I could run a whole site about what popular mangaka said on social media. I could intentionally exaggerate their words in my translations and purposefully misquote them too, creating some buzz and making way more dollars than on DualShockers. Jokes aside, this is pretty interesting for a bunch of reasons. Hiro Mashima is really into theYakuzaseries, so the words of an old-time fan like himself claimingYakuza: Like a Dragonis awesome has a lot of weight for players waiting for the localization.
Next, there’s how he particularly praised the story and the characters.Yakuza: Like a Dragon’s staff mentioned multiple times in the past that making the switch from action to RPG allowed them to flesh out the story and characters even more than usual. Seems like that’s a job well done for Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio.
While both games are completely different, it’ll also be interesting to see how the upcomingFairy TailRPG by Gust and Koei Tecmo will compare toYakuza: Like a Dragon. It’ll be fun to see what Hiro Mashima will say about it after release as well. Then again, mangaka and the like never say anything bad about an adaptation, even if it turns out disappointing.
