Ben Affleck, who embodied the Dark Knight in the DCEU, opened up about his decision to step away from his solo film, which was expected to feature the formidable villain Deathstroke. Fans were eagerly anticipating seeing Batman facing Deathstroke following his brief appearance inJustice League.
While the film was eventually scrapped, before Affleck stepped down from the role, the actor did share what it could have been like along with the reasons for abandoning the story during his appearance at Zack Snyders Full Circle event.

While joining Zack Snyder’s Full Circle event,Ben Affleckdiscussed his plans for the canceled solo film along with the villains that he considered for the movie.
“There were a number of them that I was kind of exploring,”hesaid, explaining that he wanted to develop interesting, nuanced, and complex characters while focusing on a formidable villain.
Talking about Deathstroke, he said that he wanted to make the villain as impressive as possible so that he could present a significant challenge to the protagonist. He shared,
So I was at the time really trying to hone in and focus on that character and get into depth and detail about it to make him seem as impressive as I felt there was the opportunity to do.
Portrayed by Joe Manganiello, the character made a brief appearance in the post-credit scene ofZack Snyder’s Justice League. With plans of a solo film starring Affleck, Manganiello was expected to reprise his role as well.

However, the film was ultimately canceled and theJustice Leaguestar also explained why he chose not to move forward with the film that would have brought Batman and Deathstroke face to face.

During the event,Zack Snyderand Ben Affleck were also asked about his plans for Batman and Deathstroke following the villain’s appearance inJustice League,where he learns Batman’s secret identity.
The actor shared that while they had an elaborate plan for how things would fold out, he eventually felt uncertain about whether the story and character arc would work. Heshared,
There was a whole elaborate plan — My plan for continuing on in this character, a certain point I got to and kind of found that I thought I wasn’t really, you know … I just felt like I wasn’t quite sure if it worked or jived.
He shared that as both an actor and director, he felt that it was crucial to be fully confident in the direction of the project. Affleck argued that if he isn’t sure about the precise vision or goal or the character, he prefers not to proceed with it.

The actor suggested that he had lost the precise target that he should have been aiming for his soloBatmanmovie, and upon realizing the same he decided it was time to move on.
