Elon Musk, former Chairman of Tesla and current CEO of SpaceX, always finds a way to make headlines. Whether it’s with his idea for a portable flamethrower or his many inflammatory tweets on his recently purchased X platform, the billionaire knows how to draw the attention of the media. He also appears to be a gamer and can be seen chiming in with his opinion on titles such asElden RingandCyberpunk 2077.
However, it seems he sometimes overshoots the mark and says things that do not pan out as he wishes. Such as his promise to bringCyberpunk 2077to the Cybertruck, a claim that he is unable to now follow through on.
Elon Musk Stated That Cyberpunk 2077 Would be Playable on the Cybertruck
The claim was made on X as aresponse to a postfrom 2022 by the officialCyberpunk 2077handle. Musk calledCyberpunk 2077a “Great game,” to which Ryan McCaffrey, an Executive Editor at IGN, asked when people could see the game run on the S or X model of Tesla cars.
Musk’s response claimed they were working on making Steam games work on Tesla. When asked if seeingCyberpunk 2077on the Cybertruck was a guarantee, Musk simply responded with the ‘100’ emoji. Well, the all-wheel-drive version of the Cybertruck is now available, but it cannot runCyberpunk 2077yet.

The newer versions of the Model S and X now show Steam support and can play thousands of games from the platform. This is likely due to them being the top models in the Tesla line-up and shipping with robust tech. The high-end variants of the cars boast 256GB of storage and 16GB of RAM, now considered the basic requirements when it comes to AAA gaming.
While the Cybertruck is not cheap, it still ships only with 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM as part of its infotainment system. This means that despite the electric pickup boasting support for Steam, it most likely will not be able to run titles likeCyberpunk 2077unless it gets a bump in specs.

It’s no secret that new games from big studios now require gamers to boast some pretty chunky hardware. The fact thatElon Musk’s big boy truck is unable to pack enough power under the hood to run the game, despite his promise, is disappointing to many fans.

Unless Tesla offers to retrofit Cybertrucks with better tech, people will have to wait until 2025 to see if the rear-wheel drive variant can run these bigger games.
The Tesla graphic subsystem has been said to rival that of the PlayStation 5, with half of the overall bandwidth. Steam integration on the cars can work with a controller or a mouse and keyboard set-up, allowing players to choose their weapons.
