WhileElden RingNightreign has the brand of one of the most beloved games of all time, it’s not enough to stave off any fears the game’s director has for the upcoming spinoff.
Just days before the launch, the game’s director discusses fine-tuning the game until its release, and how he’s confident about the upcoming multiplayer game, yet also nervous, which is understandable given this is his directorial debut.

Elden Ring Nightreign Still Getting Polish And Game Balance Tuning Days Before Releasing
Speaking in aninterview, Elden Ring Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki shared that while he’s feeling “very excited, a little nervous going into this final week” before the game’s launch, he’s “confident” about the project.
With the game mainly focusing on boss fights and relying on multiplayer for its gameplay loop, it’s no surprise that Ishizaki and the studio are busy making sure the game’s balanced. “We really try to tweak things until the last minute. We’re busy fine-tuning, getting the most out of any single session. We want players to feel happy and comfortable in each session, so we’re really trying to get that player comfort and that play feel just really fine-tuned until the very end,” says the director.

I’m fully expecting FromSoftware to pump out patches for the game on a more consistent basis than in Elden Ring given the two game’s core gameplay loop aren’t the same, and Nightreign will live and die by its multiplayer playerbase.
Elden Ring Nightreign’s Director Was Told He “Shouldn’t Hold Back” When Designing The Game
Elden Ring Nightreign’s director explains how he was set loose to create the multiplayer co-op souls game of his dreams.
While FromSoftware is still developing the game up to the last minute, it’s not for technical bugs or anything, but for balance. Ishizaki says the entire process “is all about the game balance at this point.”

Even with balance changes made, expect the developers to plug any exploits or if a certain weapon or build is dominating too much, and that won’t be known until the game is in the hands of players. Like with any multiplayer PvE game, I’m expecting players to find a way to “break” the game, which FromSoftware would then need to patch up.
Will Elden Ring Nightreign live up not only to the studio’s name, but even the franchise? We’ll know for sure in a few days' time when Elden Ring Nightreign releases on May 30 for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
