Koei Tecmo launched a fan poll for the 20th anniversary of theDynasty Warriorsseries. The poll can be accessedhereand is only in Japanese, but you can easily navigate it even if you don’t know the language. In particular, the poll asks in its 5th question which next-gen platforms fans are planning to buy between PS5 and Xbox Series X. Question 8 asks what elements do you like the most in theShin Sangoku Musouseries. Question 9 asks if a new game was announced, what is the first piece of info you’d like to learn about it.TheDynasty Warriors20th anniversary poll ends on July 19 at 23:59 JST.
Shin Sangoku Musou 8 (Dynasty Warriors 9)thelatest game in the series, was released in February 2018 and changes the usual map formula by switching to open-world. In correlation with theDynasty Warriors20th anniversary, we might get news on the next game soon. Though Covid-19 is making things blurrier.
The very firstDynasty Warriorsgame,Sangoku Musouin Japan, was a 3D fighting game on PlayStation. However, for the game that followed, rather than staying in the fighting game genre, Koei and Omega Force renewed the gameplay into the hack’n’slash “Musou” style of gameplay we know today, renaming the seriesShin Sangoku Musou.Hence why all western titles are one number higher than theShin Sangoku MusouJapanese titles. A slightly similar thing happened with theWarriors Orochiseries, the crossover betweenShinSangoku Musou (Dynasty Warriors)andSengoku Musou (Samurai Warriors).I’m sure anyone reading this article already knew all that though.
While I personally have very mixed feelings and Unneeded Opinions towards anime licensedMusougames, I’ve always liked the originalShin Sangoku Musouseries and am looking forward to its 20th anniversary plans. Omega Force can actually do pretty good action RPGs out of theMusouformula too, such asPersona 5 Scramble The Phantom Strikers. Anyway. We’ll be sure to tell you when announcements come around.
