2023 was a year packed with back-to-back video game releases that included new AAA titles, long-anticipated sequels, top-tier remakes, and a slew of other games in just about every category and genre you can think of. Some have even said that it was the Best Year In Gaming thus far. But regardless, there were so many must-play games this year that no one individual could experience them all. Fortunately for you, the team at DualShockers has come together to compile our collective experiences, thoughts, and opinions to deliver the DualShockers Definitives: Game Of The Year Collection. In this collection, we’ll explore the top 10 best games in each category and dive into the personal top 10 games hand-selected by our editorial team.
How We Determine Our Ranking
Narrowing down the best games of the year, as well as the top 10 games in each category, is a contentious task in even the most ideal conditions — so we wanted to take a moment to walk you through how we determine our ranking before we dive into our collection of winners.
As can be expected, each gamer has their own unique experience, perspective, and preferences, so to ensure all 2023 games are represented and considered fairly, we put it to a vote, sending asurvey to our entire team for input on which games should be considered in each category.Once we have all nominations accounted for, we will then rank each game within its category by the percentage of the total vote it received. In the case that two games received the same percentage of votes, we will then have the entire editorial team vote to break the tie.
Game Of The Year Award Categories
With well over 200 games released this year alone, there were bound to be a few dozen that would leave a lasting impression on the whole of the gaming community. These are the games of 2023 that captivated us most, keeping our hands firmly gripping the controller and our eyes glued to the screen. And while there can only be one title crowned the DualShockers Definitives Game of the Year (Available December 31st), every game in the below categories is a winner in its own right.
