Dragon’s Dogma 2: 15 Best Weapons In The Game

Choosing the best weapons in any game is hard. We scoured the world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 to present to you the best weapons available in the game.

Out of thestarting 4 Vocations, Thief is definitely one everyone should try out. With a slew of brutal, swift attacks and stealthy techniques at your disposal, it’s hard to take out an enemy without doing it in style. But not all of the thief’s Weapon Skills are created equally, so we’ve ranked them for you.

Dragons Dogma 2 Best Weapons Feature

Dragon’s Dogma 2

Upgraded Skill: Plunder

One of the available weapon skills that sounds most Thief-like is Pilfer. This move allows you to steal from your enemies in the middle of battle when you knock them off balance. For larger enemies though, like Ogres and Cyclops, you’ll have to completely knock them down in order to steal something.

Because this particular weapon skill is pretty hard to pull off, and the rewards you can get are not incredibly enticing most of the time, it is definitely the last one you want to consider bringing with you unless you are specifically trying to gather certain resources from enemies. Even so, you’ll likely find them anyway while exploring the world and looting dead bodies, so you’ll probably just want to avoid this skill altogether.

12Shadow Cloak

Upgraded Skill: Shadow Veil

Another weapon skill synonymous with being a thief is Shadow Cloak. By using this skill, you’ll cover yourself in a mist-like substance that makes it harder for enemies to detect you in battle. This can be especially helpful when fighting larger, more powerful enemies as the Thief isn’t the toughest when it comes to taking hits.

However, you likely won’t need to use this skill very often, so having it take up one of your four available weapon skill slots is not advised, especially once you have unlocked the more desirable skills ranked higher on this list.

11Easy Kill

Upgraded Skill: Masterful Kill

A move that is as flashy as it is effective, Easy Kill is the Thief equivalent to a counter or parry move. By activating this weapon skill right when the enemy hits you, you will quickly move around and on top of them, slitting their throat and finishing them in one move.

Dragons Dogma 2: How To Unlock Trickster Vocation

Unsure of how to unlock the magic smoke-wielding Trickster Vocation? Here’s what you need to do.

The upgraded version of this skill, Masterful Kill, allows you to also do this mid-air, which makes countering attacks even easier than before. Although this is highly effective against a single, weaker enemy, it isn’t a move you want to rely on all the time as you are often getting attacked by multiple enemies from all angles. However, if you like having the option to counter, this is not a bad skill to keep equipped.

10Biting Wind

Upgraded Skill: Cutting Wind

Biting Wind is the first weapon skill you unlock for Thief and is very helpful and effective early on while you are still leveling up the Thief Vocation. The move allows you to quickly dash forward, slicing your foes in a flash before they can react. With the upgraded form, Cutting Wind, you also gain a bit more attack range, which makes it even easier to dash around the battlefield cutting up your foes.

Although this move is really useful because of its speed, it isn’t incredibly powerful, even with the upgrade. You will likely get a lot of benefits out of it for the first few Vocation levels, but after you’ve unlocked some of the more advanced weapon skills, you probably won’t go back to this one.

9Blades of the Pyre

Legendary Master Skill (No Upgrade)

In the world of Dragon’s Dogma 2, there are Maisters of each Vocation. By finding them and meeting their requirements, you may unlock a special master weapon skill that cannot be acquired any other way. For the Thief, this skill is known as Blades of the Pyre.

When used, you’ll bring your daggers together and light them on fire while creating a massive blast toward your foes. This deals a great amount of damage when it connects, but the drawback is that it also hurts you a bit. That makes it not a good choice to use often as it will drain your health pretty quickly, both with the initial blast damage, and the persistent fire damage that follows. Although this is the Thief’s master skill, it is definitely not the best available, though it is a good option if you want to dish out massive damage to a more challenging foe.

8Concussive Step

Upgraded Skill: Concussive Leap

Since the Thief is not known for being able to take a lot of hits, being able to get out of the way of enemy attacks is pretty important. Even though the Thief comes equipped with a dodge move built-in, sometimes that is just not enough. This is where you will want to take advantage of Concussive Step.

This weapon skill makes you throw an explosive blast at the ground that can propel you in whatever direction you want. It is most effective in quickly getting you out of the way, but can also occasionally stun weaker enemies too. With the upgraded Concussive Leap, you’ll also expend less stamina using this skill, which makes it a great addition to any loadout since it is always a good idea to have at least one evasive type skill on you at all times. And if you are only choosing one evasive skill, you can do no better than this one.

7Gut and Run

Upgraded Skill: Draw and Quarter

Another of the Thief’s weapon skills that packs a punch, Gut and Run, and the more powerful upgraded version - Draw and Quarter, is an incredibly powerful move to employ against large, climbable enemies. This skill can only be activated while you are clinging to a large enemy, but will absolutely obliterate their health in the most brutal fashion possible.

It is especially effective when using it against an enemy’s weak point, like the eye of a cyclops. Because of this, it is one of the best skills to take with you whenever you plan on taking down some larger beasts. Since it can’t really help you against smaller enemies, you’ll have to be okay with relying on your other 3 equipped skills for the majority of battles. But even with that disadvantage, Gut and Run is a great skill to keep equipped, ensuring you can do the maximum damage when you most need to.

6Smoke Screen

Upgraded Skill: Smoke Shroud

The most effective of all the Thief’s evasive and support-focused skills, Smoke Screen will have you throw a smoke bomb at the ground. This blinds targets, making it harder for them to land attacks which is incredibly useful when you and your party are surrounded. This skill can also be used in any situation, whether you are standing, in mid-air, or clinging to a foe, making certain you always have an opening to retreat and regather your party when needed.

With the advanced version of the skill, Smoke Shroud, lasting even longer than the base skill, you really can’t go wrong with keeping this one equipped at all times. However, if you feel like you don’t need an evasive skill for your personal playstyle, then you may want to save this skill slot for something that can actually do some damage.

5Powder Charge

Upgraded Skill: Powder Blast

Likely the most useful, powerful skill available to the Thief, Powder Charge allows you to set an explosive on the ground in the middle of battle and trigger it whenever you see your opening. This blast is huge, dealing out a large amount of damage in an area, which is perfect for taking out multiple weaker foes at once, or even staggering larger foes.

Furthermore, you can even stick it into larger foes while climbing them, which means there is never a situation where you can’t take advantage of this move. Although it takes a bit of preparation and can’t be used as quickly as other skills, Powder Charge is a powerful skill that you can always keep equipped.

4Enkindled Blades

Upgraded Skill: Ignited Blades

The most useful of all fire-type skills the Thief has at their disposal, Enkindled Blades allows you to light your daggers on fire for a short period of time. The initial attack this skill triggers does a good amount of damage as you spin around, slashing your foes, but it will also make all future attacks, both regular and weapon skills, deal additional fire damage and light your foes on fire.

Dragons Dogma 2: How To Unlock And Equip Skills

Wondering how you unlock and equip new skills in Dragon’s Dogma 2? Here’s what you need to know.

This attack is very quick to initiate, which means the moment it wears off, you may just trigger it again. Because of this, you’ll likely want to use Enkindled Blades, and the longer-lasting Ignited Blades version, as often as possible since it effectively boosts your overall damage output while it is active. Once unlocked, every Thief should keep this weapon skill equipped.
