ThePawn systeminDragon’s Dogma 2is the game’s version of an asynchronous multiplayer environment where players canhire other players' Pawnsand send their own out into the ether, hoping they’ll get recruited in turn. This forms a virtuous cycle where playersbuild their Pawnsthe best way they know how to try and make them attractive to potential buyers and take up the role of the buyer themselves every time they find aForgotten Riftstone.

Would you take the leap of faith in Dragon’s Dogma 2?
If you’re unlucky, getting your own Pawn hired can seem nearly impossible. Luckily, that’s easy enough to fix. Whether you’re looking toincrease your stash of RC, want to get some morePawn badgesunder your belt, or just hungry for an ego boost, here are some tips to get you and your Pawns on the right track.

Dragon’s Dogma 2
5Always Get A Specialization
Forager, Logistician, And Woodland Wordsmith Are Safe Choices
Specializations in DD2give Pawns passive abilities that allow them to interact with the game in certain ways that they can’t without them. Unlocking a specialization requires reaching max affinity with certain NPCs and using the tomes they give you.
From our testing,Woodland Wordsmithis the most valued specialization people go after (if they’re looking for specializations as criteria). Even if they’re not paying attention to Specialization, if someone notices that your Pawn has no specialization to begin with, it gives the impression that you have not invested any time into that Pawn. Havingsomethingis always better than nothing. Chirurgeon is the easiest Specialization to get as it only requires you to complete a quest inMelvefor agirl named Floraand to meet her in Vernworth afterward.

4Mages Pawns Are Always In Demand
Fighters Are Great, Too
Choosing a Vocation for your Pawnwill have a huge impact on whether or not your Pawn gets hired. If someone is looking for acertain Vocationto balance out their party, they won’t choose anything else no matter how attractive. And nine times out of ten, they’re looking for a Mage. Let me explain why.
Mage is the de-facto healer/support class in DD2 as they’ll always have Anodyne (golden globe that heals) as one of their core skills even if they don’t have any healing-related skills equipped. And the three Affinity spells (Lightning, Fire, Cold) make them excellent at buffing allies. This means that Mage is an absolutely necessary part of every party. If you don’t have a mage in your party, your accompanying Pawns will constantly remind you that your party doesn’t have any means to heal themselves except potions, which is a very bad place to be. Despite its strengths, Mage is also not the class that players themselves will want to play, as it can be a bit boring. This makes their choice either to give their main Pawn this vocation or hire someone else’s Pawn who’s a Mage. 50-50 odds are pretty good, I’d say.

3Invest In OP Equipment
City Merchants Have Excellent Gear
You don’t want to have buyers' remorse on your hands. Say someone hired your Pawn because they had the class/specialization they were looking for but when it came to combat they found out that every time they entered, they were dead in the water as soon as the first sword is swung. This happens more than you’d think.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 Players Shocked After Discovering “Fake” Pawn Rentals
Dragon’s Dogma 2 players shockingly find out that pawns aren’t always hired by real people.
Players hesitate to drop40,000 - 50,000 Goldon an armor piece of their Pawn because they feel they’ll get a similar piece from exploring caves and defeating monsters. 10 hours later, they’re still looking at the gear they got from theVocation Changerjust for changing their class. It’s better to bite the bullet with city/village vendors. If you see a decent piece, buy it. Underpowered Pawns are a burden on you and on whoever hires them.

2Make ‘em Look Pretty
Mix And Match
Looking pretty is not easy, especially in a game like Dragon’s Dogma 2 that doesn’t have an inherenttransmog systemto do the heavylifting. You’ll want to strike a balance between utility and looks to offer potential recruiters a complete package. Luckily, all the OP armor pieces and weapons all go together quite well.
Where you want to pay special attention, however, is in the Cloak and the face coverings. Cloaks especially like to clip through certain armor pieces and generally clash very badly with certain colors. Most cloaks offer very similar stats, so there is no reason to value function over looks here. Just pick the one that looks the prettiest and stick to it. Pioneer’s Cape is always a safe choice if you’re having trouble deciding.

1Set Attractive Pawn Quests
10,000 Is The Golden Number
When it gets down to it, the number one reason why anyone hires any Pawn is for what they bring to the table.Skills, equipment, specializations, and the like are all well and good until you start to really notice the difference between compensation. DD2 allows players to set Pawn quests for the hiring players. What these boil down to is Do X and you’ll be rewarded with Y. The Y can either be an item or a certain amount of Gold. The upper limit for how much Gold you may give someone is 10,000, and that is the number players arealwayslooking for when browsing through possible Pawns for the next leg of their journey.
The absolute best way to get your Pawn hired is to give them an easy quest for a Pawn badge like Kill 1 Ogre or Kill 1 Cyclops and set the reward for 10,000 Gold. Players looking to min-max their gameplay will jump at the chance of hiring someone with a quest like that. In fact, they’ll always be looking for a set. Meaning they’ll want to bring along two Pawns whose quest is to kill a Cyclops to complete both quests in one go and get an easy +20,000 Gold in the bank. Why would anyone want to spend RC to hire your Pawn when they could hire another Pawn with a juicy reward of 10,000 Gold, just begging to be taken along? From a purely economic sense, pure, hard cash always wins.
