It’s not a secret that Akira Toriyama, the creator ofDragon Ball, weaved a great number of Easter eggs within his manga. Full of cleverly hidden goodies just waiting to be uncovered by eagle-eyed viewers, the manga and anime has kept fans on their toes.

Balma from the Dragon Ball series

One of the more interesting ones involves Bulma, the genius inventor, and her mysterious parents, Dr. Brief and Panchy. Just what secrets lie in this family’s background? And how have those secrets defined theDragon Ballworld?

What Was The Actual Joke About The Secrets Of Bulma’s Parents?

From thisReddit post, we recalled this faintly unnerving conversation between Bulma and her mother, Panchy, in theDragon Ballanime. It was when Gohan flew by overhead and Bulma innocently inquired,“Mom, why don’t you age?”In response to that question, Panchy said,“Your father won’t let me,”which seemed like a laugh-off reply.

But a little later on, a chat by Bulma with Dr. Brief revealed some sinister truth. Speaking to Dr. Gero’s secret lab, Dr. Brief nonchalantly revealed:

Of course he has a secret lab, we all do. Where do you think I keep your mother’s clones?

Bulma was shocked hearing that, and his father’s quick response was:

VegetaBulma

Don’t go in the basement.

The suggestions were breathtaking. This was actually made certain in the next scene, something he was not imagining. Dr. Brief replaces Panchy with a clone once she becomes old, and by this, he maintains her youth forever. With this,Akira Toriyamaended up crafting a dark family secret that begged for some very unnerving questions about the Brief family morals and the exact cost of their scientific pursuits.

The Influence of This Particular Secret On The Franchise As a Whole

The secret about Dr. Brief’s cloning had a big impact on theDragon Ballseries. It added a new layer of complexity to the characters and their relationships which made the show more interesting and diverse. The series then explored deeper themes like identity, humanity, and the ethics of science, which made us think about the consequences of playing with nature.

The clones also made us question what is real and what is not. This secret also allowed for more character development, especially for Bulma, who had to deal with the truth about her family’s past and the secrets they kept. As the series went on, we saw how this secret affected the characters and their actions, making the story even more engaging and suspenseful.
