Jonathan Majors’ rising stardom came crashing down when he was arrested in 2023 on misdemeanor charges of assault and harassment. He was found guilty of those charges in December and was convicted, leading him to lose out on multiple projects that were in the making, including his role as Kang the Conqueror in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Majors’ replacement in the MCU has been a talking point for quite some time and has caused concern among fans as he was touted to be the main antagonist in the ‘Multiversal Saga’. The actor had prominent roles in the Disney Plus seriesLokiand the Paul Rudd-starringAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania. An industry insider revealed that the recasting of Majors may not be announced anytime soon.

When Will Marvel Announce Jonathan Majors’ Replacement In The MCU?

After starring as Kang the Conqueror and his variants in the first season ofLoki,Jonathan Majorswas set up to be the main antagonist of the MCU in the ‘Multiversal Saga’, much like Thanos. He had a cameo inAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, setting him up as the villain teaming up with other variants, propelling him to superstardom.

However, the celebration was short-lived for Majors as he was arrested in March 2023 after being accused of assault and harassment by his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari. The actor was convicted of the charges in December 2023 and was yet to have a sentencing hearing. Majors was dropped by his PR as well as his management company. After his conviction, Jonathan Majors was also dropped by Marvel, with the search on to replace him.

Jonathan Majors’ conviction led Marvel to officially fire him from the role. While there have been no announcements about his replacement in the MCU, or if the franchise would go ahead with another villain as the main antagonist, fans have been speculating about the future.

However, industry insiderJustin Krollmentioned that fans should not be expecting an update anytime soon. He said,

“See a lot ‘Who will play Kang next’ and ‘Here is a top contender for Kang’ comments this week, and all I’ll say is this, don’t expect that news anytime soon. There will be plenty of Marvel breaks in [the] coming weeks on various fronts but don’t hold your breath on that one.”

There were also rumors about Marvel opting to go with a different villain, with Doctor Doom being the top contender.

Who Might Replace Jonathan Majors In The MCU?

Many names have been thrown around by Marvel fans to replace Jonathan Majors after he was dropped by the MCU.Euphoriastar Colman Domingo was reported to be a frontrunner for the role, and fans too were enthusiastic about the choice. The actor won the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role inEuphoria.

Domingo addressed the rumors in an interview withETwhile he attended the Palm Springs Film Festival. He said,

“I know there’s talk and conversations around, and I don’t know how much is true…The fans are passionate. Somehow my name is out there in the world [and] I like the idea of just having your name called and someone speaking lovingly and kindly about something is a beautiful thing.”

Other actors who were in the running includedStar Wars’ John Boyega andTenetstar John David Washington. Justin Kroll also mentioned in his scoop that all rumors could neither be confirmed nor denied but any news on that front would not be revealed soon. He said,

“This isn’t dismissing any rumor this week about potential contenders for the role, I don’t have any intel on those being true or not true it’s just letting you know, if I were betting what gets announced first, Kang or the field, I’d put money on the field.”

Jonathan Majors’ Kang was the center of the MCU’s plans that culminated inAvengers: Secret WarsandAvengers: Kang Dynasty.The latter has now been renamed asAvengers 5. While speculations rise, it is all up to Marvel to make the final decision that would impact the ‘Multiverse’.
