Dead Take onSteamis set in the empty mansion of aneccentric movie mogul. As such, there are tons of expensive and strange pieces of artwork. Some of these are integrated into the game’s puzzles, with one involving portraits being some of the trickiest to solve.
As you go through Dead Take, the overall story/gameplay loop will reveal itself. The player needs to find red USB sticks and return to the cinema room toplay the live-action footagestored on them, usually after splicing them with existing video clips. Once they’ve seen the clip, they must leave the cinema room, where they’ll find an item that will unlock a new item.

Slay The Princess: Every Vessel Path And How To Get Them
Here’s every Vessel you can deliver to the Shifting Mound.
Once the player completes the trident puzzle in the sauna and watches the next video clip, they’ll be given the Painting Key. The player needs to go to the gallery in the main house, which previously held the Roomba that was driving into the wall. In the landing above the gallery, there is a pedestal covered in flowers. The Painting Key is inserted here.
The Painting Key will cause a locked book to spawn on the pedestal, and for four creepy portraits to appear on the displays below. There’s a frustrating aspect to this puzzle that many players will likely miss. Luckily, I’ve already cracked Dead Take’s hidden portrait code.

How To Solve The Book Code
The reason why the portrait puzzle in Dead Take is so confusing is that it isn’t obvious that you’ve been given part of the answer. Anyone who isn’t fully paying attention will come to this room and assume that they need to solve the portraits first, and they’ll provide the four numbers to crack the book code.
The solution is the other way around. Theplayer already has the answerfor cracking the book, as it was in the previous video clip. It was spoken as part of the lover’s speech, which had four numbers spoken by Neil Newbon. The code to crack the book is7210. This will cause it to open up, revealing four stories.

How The Book Solves The Portrait Puzzle
The book has four pages of prose, which connect to the portraits below. The portraits are named “The Dreamer”, “The Rising Star”, “Price and Illusion”, and “The Final Curtain.” Each of these pages has a description that ties to the portraits.
Investigating the portraits reveals that they have a lever that switches the background image. There are four background colors available: yellow, blue, red, and purple. These represent different stages of the day, and only one is used with each portrait.

Closely reading the four pages will tell you exactly what colors are needed for each portrait. With this information in hand, the rest ofthe puzzle is easy to solve.
What Colors Should Each Of The Portraits Be?
As seen in the images above, in order to solve the portrait puzzle, you need to change the portraits to the following colors:
Once all portraits are correct, a loud thunking noise will be played. Near the area where the Roomba used to be, a door will open to the next area of the mansion.
