DayZ has long been an example to showcase the potential of modding tools. Whatstarted out as a simple zombie modfor ARMA 2 quickly developed into a hardcore survival MMO, inspiring the likes of PUBG, Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone since its inception back in 2013.

Now, twelve years later,DayZis still going strong with a solid player base, and those players are being rewarded with an all-new, gigantic expansion.

DayZ Update

Ahoy, Matey: DayZ Update Adds Mysterious Boats And New Guns

How about a swim in the freezing waters of Sakhal?

Set to take place in the province of Nasdara, a region between the forests of Chernarus and the open deserts of Takistan from the Operation Arrowhead DLC,Badlands will span a total of 267 km², making it one of thelargest maps in gaming history.

Arma 3

ARMA 2 has always been known for its giant open worlds, often letting players explore entire countries complete with cities, villages, and infrastructure. While these areas are abandoned, for the most part, in DayZ, you can be sure that there will be plenty to do and uncover within the Nasdara region.

Things Are Heating Up

A recent announcement trailer gave us a glimpse into what some of the Badlands may look like. As well as deserted towns with signs written in Arabic, we also see large billboards with Soviet-style illustrations advertising oil fields in the area.

In addition to the new map, the expansion also promises new infected variants, new weapons and gear, as well as cosmetic items all tailored to the region.

Due to DayZ’sbrutally realistic survival mechanics, it also seems that thirst and water will play a larger role when exploring the Badlands. The war-torn setting is also ripe for many new treasures to be uncovered, but it seems quite clear that the story is ‘for the player to make’.

No official release date has been provided yet, but the expansion is thought to be launching at some point in 2026 on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. For now, you canwishlist the DLC on Steamin order to stay up to date with its latest developments.
