It has been a trend for actors to gain muscle for roles that require absolute strength. Superman, in particular, must have a Godly physique, and Henry Cavill’s body was seemingly closest to that. The new image of David Corenswet training for Superman shows a similar intent of the actor.

However, his training and diet are not similar to Hugh Jackman’s long and brutal one. The Wolverine star put himself in different layers of hell at the age of 55 and while many had doubts, Jackman shined in theDeadpool & Wolverinetrailer as he flashed his muscular biceps in the sleeveless attire of the X-Men hero.
David Corenswet’s Diet and Training For Superman
James Gunn’sSupermanis the most ambitious upcoming DC project for obvious reasons. The movie is expected to be the stepping stone of the new DC Universe, withDavid Corenswetjoining as the lead. ForSuperman, Corenswet, who was previously known forHollywoodandPearl, had toundergo intense physical trainingbeforeputting on the new Superman costume.“This is a James Gunn film, and he has a specific vision of the entire project,”Corenswet’s trainer Paolo Mascitti toldGQabout his training.
“Some of that mass will be shed”: David Corenswet’s Trainer Promises a Lean, Mean Man of Steel as Henry Cavill Fans Roast Him for Doing One Thing Wrong
“David had been working out intensively before I met him, but he’s naturally a very lean guy. He’s 6’4” but we wanted to put more bulk on him. He probably went from 200lbs to 240 lbs, but some of that mass will be shed as he continues to tone up.”
Gaining 40lbs was the result of a strict diet,“he was on around 6,000 calories a day, and his diet was strict, but not as strict as I would have liked,”Mascitti said.

“Half of his training had to be done over FaceTime and half in person as he wasn’t in Los Angeles all the time. We’d speak remotely and I’d ask him about his diet and he’d be eating cereal! He’d ask What’s wrong with cereal!? But that’s why he’s the perfect Superman, he has a realistic expectation of himself and the role.”

Of course, by the look of it, Corenswet is close to Gunn’s vision of the character. While he will be in his suit and regular costume of Clark Kent, it would be criminal not to expect Corenswet to flash his physique in some scenes in the movie.
Hugh Jackman’s Training Was Very Different Than David Corenswet
Hugh Jackmandidshed his sweat for the rolerestricting any other work than to spend time with family and hitting the gym. Of course, Jackman knows the essence of the character as he has played Wolverine for nearly 24 years (countingDeadpool & Wolverine).
As for his training, the Australian star previously said,“I’ve learned you can’t rush it. I’ve learned that it takes time,”(viaComplex).

“So we have six months from when I finish [The Music Man] to when I started filming. And I’m not doing any other work. I’m going to be with my family and train. That’s going to be my job for six months. And I’m really fit right now. There’s one thing that about eight shows a week being on Broadway singing and dancing is I’m fit. So I’m healthy. I have a good place to start. And apologies chickens. Run a mile. Start running now because I’m coming for you.”

Jackman’s shaping up for Wolverine has been constantly updated on hisInstagramstory, which includes his training and diet. The 55-year-old includes a portion of sliced fish, some steamed asparagus, and a slice of lemon. In another post, the actor also showed a meal containing broccolini and a slice of fish, another had a small amount of cottage cheese and steamed broccoli. Obviously, Jackman is not eating cereal for his diet, unlike the new Superman actor. Still, both are closest to what they have intended to achieve.
Deadpool & Wolverineis slated for June 06, 2025 release. James Gunn’sSupermanwill hit theatres on 09 August 2025.
