Every singleDandadanepisode has given me the opportunity to simply enjoy the essence of anime. Every episode has something new to offer while also keeping the story at the heart of everything. Whether it is about the action, the characters, the comedy, or the romance; there is no end to just how big a vision like that could go. Anime on the occult aren’t new withJujutsu KaisenandDeath Notebeing in the lead.

So to maintain a balance and offer something new, the anime takes things up a notch. The first half had me wanting to be a teenager again, experiencing what it was like to have a school crush and just how eager one would be to jump into that blissful mindset again. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t giggling and screaming during the first half of the fifth episode. Usually, missing so many genres in one project would be a recipe for disaster. Yukinobu Tatsu saw the opportunity, took a leap of faith, and instead soared in the skies.
Dandadan’s Relatability Does Not End
Dandadanepisode 5 is such a fun ride, I was smiling throughout its duration. To be in the minds of two people who found a sense of belonging in each other, to shuffle unknown feelings, and to navigate through everything. Everyone has gone through something similar at least once in their life. If not, then this could be taken as the plot of a classic romance story.
Okarun and Momo’s eagerness to talk to each other, Science Saru and the mangaka nailed the difference between the words they spoke and how they were actually feeling. Their flushed reaction was one that spoke about a connection that went deeper than just one of friendship. Their urge to see each other as soon as possible has them spiraling into an endless search, narrowly missing each other. The way that the series has showcased their inner conflicts should honestly be commendable.

Okarun’s overthinking was something I found myself genuinely intrigued by. As an introverted person, life is seen from a different lens. For someone like Okarun, it is less introverted and more alienation. He finally found someone who has the same interests as him and someone who wants to be his friend rather than bully him. For him to wonder why and second guess the last few days is only natural.
Momo’s own deflection is something many could find themself understanding. She is surrounded by people who call her their friend and to them, Okarun is an unusual guy. As such, she reacts in a hostile manner.

The Perfect Fusion
Throughout the first half of the episode, it feels like watching a romance anime in its prime. The tension and angst made me want to explore more about their relationship even if it is barely in its early stages. The transition is where the series truly shines, unafraid to shift genres in the middle of the episode. Okarun’s problems do not end despite them assuming that Turbo Granny is forever defeated.
He may have gotten his previously stolen manhood back but much to his dismay, another takes the fall. One moment he was concerned about what Momo thought of him and the next he realises that Turbo Granny may not have been so easily defeated. It is this shining fusion of genres that makesDandadanso fun in the first place. It takes on that humorous tone that comes when someone has their b*lls stolen, naturally. The poor man cannot seem to catch a break.

The episode was definitely something worth the wait with everything it offered. The amount of character development that comes in only five episodes is impeccable and Science Saru is one step ahead when it comes to the animation. I cannot wait to see what more is to come with how captivating it has been.
