Since the Belmonts are notorious for being the vampire-hunting family in the video game franchise, it was safe to say that Richter shared lineage with a few well-known characters from the video game source material. We explain who Richter’s descendants are and map out the Belmont family tree.

Richter Belmont Is A Direct Descendant Of Simon Belmont

Before we dive into the Belmont family tree, it’s important to note thatRichter Belmont’s parents are Juste Belmont and Lydie Erlangerin a version of the video game timeline, the former of which is the main character in the 2002 video game Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, where Lydie served as a supporting character also. Even though Juste and Lydie were not together in the narrative, one of the game’s endings hinted at the pair’s blossoming romance.

Juste Belmont was Simon Belmont’s grandfather, and Simon is the son of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades—the main characters from the parent Castlevania series on Netflix. This connection confirms that Richter is not only a descendant of Trevor’s, but he’s actually his great-grandson.This direct connection is thanks to the 2010 video game Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, which actually simplified the timeline and made Simon the son of Trevor and Sypha. However, the original timeline put nine generations between Richter and Trevor.

Since Richter’s parents were never directly named in the series but highlighted in the Lords of Shadows game for continuity’s sake,Castlevania: Nocturne changed the heritage once again by making Julia Belmont—an original character in the series—Richter’s mother, who is the daughter of Juste and Lydie. With three changes in the timeline to keep track of, it’s no wonder fans are having a hard time pinpointing Ritcher’s descendants.

Belmont Family Tree Explained

Since we’ve already noted the changes Lords of Shadow and Castlevania: Nocturne made to the Belmont family tree, we’ll be focusing on the original family tree in this section, which began with Leon Belmont.

Leon was a knight and vampire hunter who existed during the late 11th century and stars as the protagonist of Castlevania: Lament of Innocence. Leon goes up against the vampire Walter Bernhard and his former friend-turned-vampire Mathias Cronqvist—who goes on to become Count Dracula.

Next in the family tree comes Trevor C. Belmont—the protagonist we know from Netflix’s parent series—and even though Leon’s fiancé is said to be Sara Trantoul, there is no record of them having a child, nor is there a direct blood tie to Trevor. In one version of the timeline, the second game in the Lords of Shadow reboot series,Mirror of Fate, specifies that Trevor’s parents are Gabriel and Marie Belmont—the former who went on to be Dracula. Since Lords of Shadow is considered a reboot series, it’s not canon to the original timeline.

Trevor went on to have three children with his wife Sypha Belnades – Ann Belmont, Frediric Belmont, and Marry Belmont. Ann introduced the Morris Clan into the timeline with Royd Morris, Frediric had Christopher Belmont with Janis, and Marry introduced the Helsing Clan to the family tree with Leo Helsing.

The main Belmont family tree continued with Christopher, who had Soleil, Gerhart, and Amanda Belmont. Only Amanda is noted to have had relations with Raypl Ericsson to introduce the Ericsson Clan into the timeline. There is then a break in the tree, as it was not recorded whether Soleil or Gerhart had any children.

The next Belmont in line is Simon Belmont, who became the protagonist of the original Castlevania game and Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest. The vampire hunter worked during the 17th century and battled Count Dracula once again after being reawakened. Simon’s only known relatives are Trevor, being his ancestor, Christopher Belmont, his great-grandfather, and Juste Belmont his grandson.

Juste’s parents are not recorded in the timeline either, meaning there is a generational gap between Simon and Juste. As a reminder, the original timeline does not state that Juste had a relationship with Lydie to have Richter Belmont, meaning there is, technically, another generational gap between Juste and Richter, even though separate narratives confirm Juste is Richter’s father.

This leads the family tree onto Richter, the protagonist of Castlevania: Nocturne, who has a romantic relationship with girlfriend Annette, and Maria Renard is also revealed to be a distant relative and adopted sister of Richter. The family tree then notes an uncertain blood relationship with Michael R. Belmont before the line passes to Julius Belmont.

To close the family tree,Julius Belmont is the last known descendant of the Belmont clan, with Richter listed as his only ancestor. Julius is the vampire hunter responsible for the final death of Count Dracula during the Demon Castle Arc that preceded the events of Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. In Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, Julius returns and teams up with Yoko Belnades and Genya Arikado to take down Celia Fortner and her cult.
