Blue Protocol will be getting a worldwide release after all.

Developer BOKURA, who now holds the license from Bandai Namco for the failed MMORPG, and publisher A PLUS JAPAN have announced Blue Protocol: Star Resonance, a revival of the original game that was only released in Japan.

It wasshut down earlier this yearand never made it to its scheduled worldwide release.

Trying To Succeed Where The Original Failed

The original Blue Protocolwas developed by Bandai Namco, and was slated for a worldwide release sometime in 2023,to be published by Amazon Games.

However, the game suffered from a troubled development cycle. It started back in 2015, and only ended up releasing in Japan in 2023 after a significant delay, pushing the worldwide release back to sometime in 2024.

It was ultimately announced in August 2024 that the game would be shut down in January 2025, which obviously meant the worldwide version would never make it to the finish line.

Genshin Impact Age Verification Is Launching Soon

Failure to comply will result in account suspension or info deletion.

Now, though, BOKURA seem confident they can make this new open-world MMORPG succeed where the original failed, but the anime-styled free-to-play open-world genre is a bit more competitive than before. It was previously dominated just by Genshin Impact, but now there arerelative newcomers like Wuthering Wavesto contend with as well, especially on mobile.

The difference is that Blue Protocol: Star Resonance, like its predecessor, is a full-fledged MMORPG, with much more player customization and a selection of playable classes instead of characters to pull for in a gacha, as well as hopefully more options for in-game activities to commit your time to instead of the usual one-dimensional free-to-play grind.

We still don’t have a specific release date for Blue Protocol: Star Resonance, so at this point we can only hope its development and release go more smoothly than the original, and it lasts more than a year and a half.
