Call of Dutyis a franchise that has stayed relevant despite being around for decades. But, its relevance is partly because there isn’t real competition in the market of first-person shooters in the industry because, as per most gamers, the franchise has aged terribly.

After Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 was received terribly, it might be time for the franchise to switch release and announcement strategies.

After the latest title was deemed a disappointment by fans, The upcoming title in the franchise is rumored to be titledBlack Ops Gulf War.Moreover, as per rumors, the title also takes a different road for its announcement than previous titles released recently and may even be released as a Day One title on Xbox Game Pass.

Call of Duty’s next title might see the franchise shifting strategies

As per an exclusive report fromInsider Gaming, the upcoming title of the popular first-person shooter will not be announced at a Warzone live event. Instead, it is reported that the title will be announced more traditionally. This is unlike any other title sinceBlack Ops: Cold Warinitiated theWarzonereveal event tradition.

As per the exclusive report linked above, the upcoming title in the franchise will also be featured in the upcoming Xbox Showcase, owing to theMicrosoft and Activision deal finalized last year.Despite the deal having a rubber stamp, no titles from the FPS series have yet made it to Xbox Game Pass.

The franchise’s next title is going to be part of the Black Ops subseries.

An addition of the latest title from the biggest FPS franchise, currently as a Day One title on Game Pass, might be the event that caused the shift that the console company desperately needed. But nothing is confirmed, and all these are rumors, so Xbox fans might want to hold off on the celebration.

Why Call of Duty going a different announcement route is so massive

Activision’s first-person franchise has come under fire repeatedly for sticking to the same formula as long as it brings in revenue. Whether one considers the minimal changes in the gameplay or little to no substance inModern Warfare 3‘s campaign mode, it feels that the company is risk-averse and wants to induce cash flow.

Hence, there is a high degree of plausibility that Activision is breaking theirWarzonelive reveal event tradition, despite being fully aware of the number of players it gravitates, because they want to put a dent into the market.
