WhenShibai Otsutsukiwas first mentioned inBoruto, the image that was used to denote God was inspired by a Japanese yōkai(a class of supernatural spirits) called Mokumokuren from Japanese mythology. There have been a lot of legends about Mokumokuren that have been famous all over Japan.

The Mokumokuren yōkai is an intriguing being that manifests as spectral eyes on shōji, or paper sliding doors. An eerie atmosphere is created by these eyes, which watch everything that occurs within a house. The direct translation of the word “Mokumokuren” is “many eyes” or “continuous eyes.” The Japanese believe that the Mokumokuren is one of the original occupants of haunted dwellings.

Just like Mokumokuren’s eyes cover all the walls in the room, Shibai’s depiction inBorutofeatures him being covered by a lot of eyes that are all focused on him. A theory states that Shibai might be the final villain inBoruto’sstory.

According to a fan theory on X posted by@Krisbobotv,Boruto’sactual ultimate fight could be against the Otsutsuki God, Shibai Otsutsuki. Shibai Otsutsuki is unquestionably the most powerful character in theNarutofranchise. As mentioned in the series, Shibai sacrificed countless worlds in his pursuit of power.
According to the theory, during the three-year time jump,Borutoexperienced a vision of the planet being in imminent danger.Borutohas grown more somber and composed as a result of his perspective of the near future. As Shibai has the capability and the power to destroy planets easily, this may be a hint that Shibai, may turn out to be the series’ last nemesis andBorutomight have to battle with him to save the planet.

Additionally, the series’ manga creator,Masashi Kishimoto, gave the post-time skipBorutothe title “God Killer,” which may have been a hint at how he would put an end to the real God of the Otsutsuki clan. Although it is a theory, Kishimoto mentioning the Otsutsuki God so many times in the series, can’t just be in vain.
