WithDragon Ball, the mangaka not only created many shonen tropes and trends but also popularized them among international audiences. Aside from the massive popularity and extraordinary success,Black Clover’s Super Saiyan reference is another nod to Toriyama’s influence on the world he left behind.
Yuki Tabata has spoken about his respect and fondness for Toriyama in the past, and the anime featured a scene that was a tribute to the Super Saiyan power-up ofDragon Ball.

Black Cloverepisode 80featured the fight between Finral and Langris. It was thoroughly entertaining with emotional developments, but the extra segment or Petit Clover at the end was the best bonus! In that scene, Asta asks Finral about his changed hairstyle, and the other Black Bulls jump in to suggest different hairstyles for Finral.
While Gauche warns him against getting the same hairstyle as Marie, Noelle suggests he gets the same haircut as Asta. After seeing Finral in various hair-do, we see him with the iconic spikes that Goku and the other Saiyans rock in theDragon Ballseries.

If there’s still any doubt left after the spikes and the golden aura around Finral, Yami’s comment confirms that this scene is a tribute toAkira Toriyama. Yami says that this particular hairstyle is for those who push past their limits. This perfectly sums up Goku, who is always training to get stronger and better.
In the past,Yuki Tabata has spoken about the elements ofBlack Cloverthat were inspired byDragon Ball. So, this is just another instance in the anime that honors Toriyama’s legacy. Another important aspect of the episode was the bond shared by theBlack Clover.
Black Bulls and their heartwarming camaraderie
From day one to the current chapters of the manga, the Black Bulls have been there for each other irrespective of the threat an enemy possesses. The moments where they come together are some of the most exciting. The episode was full of emotional developments and gave us a glimpse of the closeness between Finral and the others. Finral always felt inferior to Langris but his friends were to support and reassure him.
The conversation between Finral and Vanessa also highlighted Asta’s influence on the Black Bulls. This wasn’t the only time when the entire squad showed up for one of their members. They had the same reaction when they thought that Noelle was getting stalked. It’s heartwarming to see a bunch of misfits find a home and acceptance in one another, and Black Bulls is a reinforcement of the fact that there’s always a place out there for you.
