One of the many criticisms that were levelled atHaloseason 1, was the tone that it established for the show. After the horrible reception that the show received from the fans, there was one thing that the show had to do at all costs if it wished to retain the fans who were waiting to give Season 2 a shot.
However, executive producers of the show seem to have heard the vocal criticism that fans had to offer and decided to make amendments to the show going into season 2. However, while Chief is going to take off the helmet more times than fans would like, Pablo Schreiber, playing Master Chief, has revealed that the show has taken a step in the right direction.

HaloSeason 2 is darker than its predecessor
Pablo Schreiber, in aninterviewregarding the upcoming second season of the show, talked about how this season is different from what has been done previously on the show. He said:
“The biggest difference between Season 1 and Season 2 is the tone. And there is a darker tone to it. The fighting and the action sequences feel like you’re more a part of them. You’re in the action a lot more. “
Schreiber’s portrayal of Master Chief received a lot of criticism from fans for the lack of gravitas, playing the character quite differently than how he was portrayed in the video games. The tone, along with the storyline, created a product that felt more like fanfiction than official content, something that rubbed fans the wrong way.

Pablo Schreiber credits the art department for Season 2 changes
Schreiber revealed in the interview that the changes to the tone and the action of the film are credited to the changed team behind the scenes of the show. While a new showrunner has been initiated and brought on board (David Wiener, who replaces Steven Kane and Kyle Killen), there have also been changes in other departments of the show. Following up on his comments about the show’s new direction, the actor said:
“And a lot of that was due to the new additions of people that were brought in through the art department and through the stunt department.”
The new team that has started working onHalowill face its litmus taste on 8th February, though early reviews point towards welcome changes in the story and what it manages to achieve.

Fan criticism was not deterred by the Season 2 trailer, which was able to show some of the changes that the show has made, chiefly its grounded and grittier approach. Whether this will be able to change the impression that the first season created on fans remains to be seen.
