Every weapon inSplatoon 3comes equipped with both a special weapon that can be earned gradually by inking turf and a sub-weapon that can be thrown using the right shoulder button. Each sub-weapon offers a different advantage either offensively, defensively, or as a support.

While some are used to help complement how a weapon performs in its own role, many are used to prevent a good weapon from being too good. While weapons undergo plenty of adjustments throughout a game’s life cycle, sub-weapons see significantly less change over time. With that in mind, here are the best sub-weapons in Splatoon 3.

The Torpedo is a great repositioning tool. When active, the Torpedo will target the nearest enemy player and slowly travel toward them. While it does 60 damage on a direct hit, it is easily avoided or even shot down before it can target the player.

While the Torpedo can be shot down by enemy players, it works great both as a sub to force the enemy to reposition themselves and help find enemies hidden in ink. It also works great in conjunction as a close-range one-two punch with the two weapons that currently feature it, the Goo Tuber and the Splatana Wiper.

The Ink Mine is a long way away from being the virtually guaranteed one-hit kill that it was in Splatoon 1. That being said, it still offers great value for long-distance weapons in Splatoon 3. After being deployed, the mine is visible to teammates but not to the opponent. When run over by an enemy, the Ink Mine can deal 45 damage on a direct hit.

The Ink Mine can be used by deploying one well hidden near the enemy’s spawn, or in its more intended use, covering your back as a backline weapon like the E-liter and allowing you to escape close-range attackers. The Ink Mine can be found on long-range weapons like the E-liter and its scoped variant, the Flingza Roller and the Rapid Blaster.

8Point Sensor

The Point Sensor is a throwable weapon that can track hit targets for up to 8 seconds. Being able to know where an enemy is at any given time is incredibly useful in any shooter, knowing where they are behind walls or any other structure is a massive advantage.

Point Sensors are best used throwing from a distance where enemies are cluttered and the rest of your team does not have information. The Point Sensor can be found on the Explosher, H-3 Nozzlenose, and the Nautilus 47.

7Fizzy Bomb

The Fizzy Bomb has one of the weirder mechanics in the game’s history. The Fizzy Bomb can be shaken up by moving around quickly or tapping the b button to jump. Doing so allows the Bomb to explode and move forward up to three times.

On top of being a great spacing tool, it also covers Ink better than most bombs. The real downside to the Fizzy Bomb is its longer deploy time at max power compared to other throwable subs. The Fizzy Bomb can be found on the Aerospray MG, Ballpoint Splatling, and the Sloshing Machine.

6Toxic Mist

The Toxic Mist is a bomb that deploys a mist-filled cloud that afflicts status conditions to any enemy that crosses through it. The cloud reduces the current ink supply and heavily slows the movement speed of any player currently in the mist.

Most players will just avoid the cloud unless directly hit by the throwable, so its real use comes from forcing enemies to avoid the path it is covering entirely, forcing them to go another direction. The Toxic Mist can be found on the Rapid Blaster Pro, Tri-Slosher, and the Tri-Slinger.

5Sprinkler

The Sprinkler might be the most underrated sub-weapon in Splatoon 3. Sprinklers can be attached to any surface and during their duration will spray your team’s ink within its range. The Sprinkler will cycle through various power modes, changing how much ink is deployed by it, starting high and slowing down over time.

The Sprinkler can be active until it is destroyed, so it’s best to use it near areas that are hard for the enemy to get to. The Sprinkler is found on weapons like the .96 Gal, Bloblobber, and Heavy Splatling.

4Splash Wall

One of the series' original sub-weapons, the Splash Wall allows your teammates to shoot through its hitbox, whereas enemy players will see their shots hit just the splash wall itself. The Splash Wall offers excellent coverage during its seven-second deployment time and can deliver valuable defense during key objectives in Splat Zones or Tower Control. The Wall can also be deployed on top of static specials such as the Tacticooler and destroy them.

The Splash Wall can be found on the .52 Gal, Glooga Dualies, and the Squeezer.

3Splat Bomb

The Splat Bomb is your typical FPS grenade. The staple of all Splatoon 3 sub-weapons is useful in just about every situation. Splat Bombs are used over other grenades in situations where a faster deploy time and detonation are desired, opting for quick damage output and a quick spacing tool that deploys faster than a Suction Bomb.

The Splat Bomb can be found on a wide variety of weapon classes like the Splattershot Jr, Dualie Squelchers, and Slosher.

2Burst Bomb

Burst Bombs are known for their small ink usage relative to other sub-weapons, and for their wide variety of uses in-game. Burst Bombs are used to either pressure an enemy at a moderate distance with chip damage, can finish off hurt opponents at the end of an encounter, or even just drop on the ground to either quickly cover an area with ink or clear a path where the enemy ink is.

Burst Bombs can be found on the Mini Splatling, Splash-o-Matic, and the Splatana Stamper.

1Suction Bomb

The Suction Bomb does exactly what it sounds like, attaching to any surface it hits and detonating after two seconds, twice as long as the regular Splat Bomb. Suction Bombs are the perfect area denial tool while doubling as an incredibly powerful damage dealer. Throwing one onto a key area of the Splat Zone or cart on Tower Control can completely clear an objective.

The Suction Bomb can be found on weapons like the regular Splattershot, Range Blaster, and the N-ZAP ‘85.
