Cristin Milioti may have the ultimate looks and charms required to play the lead character Sofia Falcone inThe Penguinseries, but that’s not all she has: She has an incredibly rich history of fangirling over Batman’s universe in her childhood as well. To say the least, she was the ultimate fan of the Caped Crusader ever since the young years of her life.

Of course, this included her dressing up as her favorite hero and villain from the Dark Knight saga on Halloween and other occasions after becoming truly infatuated with them from the comics and TV. One of these very characters included the one Michelle Pfeiffer perfectly brought to the screens inBatman Returns, who goes from a villain to an antihero in the comics: Catwoman.

Cristin Milioti was Absolutely Smitten with Catwoman

While fangirling over superheroes and all the characters included in their respective arcs is one thing,Cristin Miliotiseems to have crossed even that. Not only did she find an unexpected liking to Batman’s saga back when her age wasn’t even in two digits, but she also became so obsessed with the characters that she would go to extremes just to get to play them.

One of the characters she was utterly charmed by was none other than Catwoman. Though she is depicted as Bruce Wayne’s ultimate love interest in the comics across various universes, she wasn’t always the good guy. Initially, she was characterized as a supervillain and an adversary of the Dark Knight, but her character arc progressed to transform her more into an antihero.

For thePalm Springsactress, this love affair started decades ago, when she had only been in this world for around seven years. Back then,Batman Returnscame out, and so didMichelle Pfeiffer‘s Selina Kyle. While many were left enchanted by the actress’ outstanding portrayal of the character, perhaps none was as delightedly dazzled by her as Milioti.

To say the least, watching Pfeiffer as Selina had the young actress so smitten that she did everything in her power just to dress in a proper Catwoman costume that Halloween. This included her pleading with her parents and bartering with good grades to order a $20 polyester outfit of the antihero from those seasonal pennysaver catalogs that came with the weekend newspaper.

As she confessed her obsession with it all toEntertainment Weekly:“I remember the costume came with these little push-on plastic, very flimsy nails. I would wait at the bottom of my driveway every day just rocking [back and forth] being like, ‘Is it today?’ I wore it for Halloween, yes, but then I wore it constantly. I would come home from school and put it on and just freak out.”

Talk about true fangirling and the first name to come into your mind must be that of Cristin Milioti. But while this infatuation with the Caped Crusader’s universe eventually had her giving one of her best performances to date in the seriesThe Penguin, there’s more to Milioti’s history with Catwoman than this, for Pfeiffer’s performance continues to live in her head rent-free.

Cristin Milioti Still Hasn’t Forgotten Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman

It has been more than three decades sinceMichael Keaton‘s 1992 masterpiece withTim Burtoncame out that had Pfeiffer’s Selina Kyle stealing the show. Nonetheless, while it had Milioti getting lured into DC’s Bruce Wayne’s universe in the first place back then, it hasn’t left the actress’ mind ever since.

To say the least, the Sofia Falcone portrayer channels the same energy in her currently raging HBO series that Pfeiffer did as Selina back then.

Continuing in the interview with Entertainment Weekly, theHow I Met Your Motheractress shared the same, saying aboutPfeiffer’s Catwoman:

“I’m sure that performance is always somewhere [in my head] in the way that all those performances that you watch as a kid, that are so meaningful for you, take up permanent residence. I was 7 when Batman Returns came out and I saw it in theaters. It terrified me, but I also wanted to put it directly into my veins.”

The 4 Red Flags in The Penguin That Seemingly Confirm Cristin Milioti’s Sofia Falcone is Poison Ivy

But while that’s that, Milioti also came clean about how it was the crime lord Carmine Falcone’s daughter now who had her wrapped around her finger.“I have been obsessed with this role since the moment I signed on,”claimed the actress. Nonetheless, embracing all aspects of those characters most certainly seems like exactly what Milioti did, considering how her performance as Falcone has proven to be nothing short of iconic, just like Pfeiffer’s.

Currently, Batman Returns can be watched on Prime Video while The Penguin miniseries can be streamed on Max.
