Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Boltsis the red-headed stepchild of theÂBanjo-Kazooieseries. The game, which isn’t highly talked-about from fans very often, decided to place an emphasis on creation tools rather than the classic platforming that the originalBanjogames are known for. Even though it’s technically the third mainline entry in the series, you’ll frequently hear fans talk as if it doesn’t even exist, instead still begging Rare to finally make aBanjo-Threeie.
In a new tweet from the game’s own composerGrant Kirkhope, it seems that he even has some difficult feelings towardsNuts & Bolts. Even though Kirkhope acknowledged that he thinksÂNuts & Bolts"is a good game" he also believes that the title’s biggest fault is that it’s aBanjo-Kazooiegame in the first place.
“Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Boltsis a good game, in some respects it pre-dates Minecraftâs build âanythingâ mechanic,” Kirkhope stated. “It just shouldnât have usedBKand been a stand-alone IP.”
For the most part, I agree with Kirkhope’s sentiments expressed here. As a massiveÂBanjo-Kazooiefan myself, I don’t thinkÂNuts & Boltsis inherently an awful game, it’s just the antithesis in a lot of ways compared to what I loved about pastBanjogames. If Rare would’ve madeÂNuts & Boltsits own standalone IP, I think the game would’ve been much more well-received. Fans wouldn’t have come in with such high expectations only to be let down whenÂN&Bproved to be something largely different from otherÂBanjotitles.
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Boltsreleased all the way back in 2008 and we haven’t seen the iconic bear and bird duo return in their own game since that time. Hopefully, Rare, or another developer, will get the chance to return to the franchise one day and make good on a new installment. And hopefully, if that happens, Kirkhope once again returns as the composer. I mean, he kind of has to, right?
Until that time,Banjo-Kazooie are slated to arrive inÂSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatelater this year as a new playable character.
