Orin The Red is the chosen of Bhaal, god of murder, and one of the major bosses of Act Three. As a deranged acolyte of murder, Orin seeks nothing more than your goriest death as an offering to her god. To goad you into this fight, Orin willabduct a party memberfrom your camp to force you to play her game and draw you into her lair. The party member will be whoever had the least approval with your avatar who wasn’t in the party at the time of the abduction.

Pursuing her will lead you all over the city. You’ll come face-to-face with shapeshifters, murderers, and antagonists from the firstBaldur’s Gate. In the end, you will find her at the temple of Bhaal in the old city, and yourfight to the deathwill begin. Here’s everything you need to know to defeat her.

Playing As The Dark Urge

It’s worth noting that if youplay as the Dark Urge, this fight takes a drastically different turn. Since you are both Bhaalspawn, and you have a history, neither Orin nor the Dark Urge can claim their true power while the other lives.

Instead of the normal fight taking place, The Dark Urge fights aone-on-one duelagainst Orin in her slayer form, or as a rogue if you have the form instead. It’s a very difficult fight, but some of the following advice will still apply.

Examining Orin

Orin begins the fight in her slayer form, an empowering transformation that lets Orin act more often by killing targets marked by Bhaal. One of her more dangerous attacks is a vicious leap she will use to inflict damage in an area around her landing point, and possibly knock your team prone. She can make this leap as a bonus action. Her most basic attack is a single target melee swipe dealing 6d6 damage. Despite having no spell attacks, she has an AoE in the form of Piercing Scream that can make yourentire party bleed.

Her multiattack is surprisingly weak, but she can make four attacks with it. And her final attack, Sumptuous Bloodbath, is a single target slash that does 3d10 slashing damage and will make the target bleed.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Orin Stats

Orin also gains theboon of Unstoppable as she fights. In reaching her sanctum, you will encounter this status on many Bhaal cultists. Itreduces all incoming damage to oneand then loses one charge. Once it’s out of charges, the effect dissipates. Enemies with this status also cannot be moved.Orin gets seven of these charges every turn there is a cultist supporting her. Without this boon, Orin’s healthpool is small compared to other enemies you’ve fought so far, it’s just a matter of dealing multiple hits a turn.

Preparing For Orin

Orin’s fight foregoes a lot of what you’re used to by this point in the game. There are no high-level spell casters and very few elemental effects. True to the god of murder, most of the damage dealt in this fight is physicalwith a focus on piercing. There are no elixirs that can reduce this damage, so it’s better to focus on boosts instead. Elixirs of Heroism give a few temporary hit points, and a bless effect that will help you land your hits and make your saving throws.

In this odd fight, there are two first-levelspells you should prepare. The fight takes place on a raised platform with deathly falls on all sides, and Thunderwave is a low level AoE that can make great use of the arena and push enemies off the edges. Magic Missile may do little damage, but against Orin, itsguaranteed multiple hitsmake it the best spell to strip away her Unstoppable boon.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Anti Orin Party

For higher-level spells, you have a few avenues to success. You can use summons or necromancy to increase the amount of allies able to act for your side. For crowd control, Hold Person will work on Orin’s allies, while Hold Monster is great for shutting her down.

Fighters are a good pick to combat Orin. At level 10, they will be able to attackthree times per action. Monks can also assist with Flurry of Blows. A barbarian will make a great tank for the fight with their rage-dulling physical blows. No matter what you’re playing, potions of speed will help you take more actions and finish the fight faster.

Going For Victory

The fight against Orin the Red is a quick one. Damage will be rapidly fired on both sides, and if you want to win, your side must be faster. The problem with this is Orin’s Cultists. The few that enter combat alongside her rather than chanting have the ability to cast Slow and Stunning Gaze. These nuisancesprevent your party members from taking their full turns, and martial classes are weakened significantly by being limited to one attack. Be sure to take them out first.

Your next hurdle is to deal with Orin’s Unstoppable Boon. During the fight, you can see a ring of cultists worshiping Bhaal and Orin. So long as one of them is alive, Orin will gain her boons. Each of these cultists has the effect of Sanctuary, preventing you from directly targeting them. However, they had the bad idea to chant next to a cliffside.Use Thunderwave to throw them off.Alternatively, if you want to deal with a few at once, you can use the Void Bulb item, or the Black HoleIllithid powerto pull several of them to a single point, then hit them with a Fireball.

Once the cultists are dead, or if you have enough sources of Damage, Orin can’t withstand a sustained onslaught for very long. Use multi-attacks to break through her boon, then strike with the highest damaging attacks you have. With only around 150 hit points, you may brute force your way to victory in a few short turns. Just mind your health, don’t get slowed, and there isn’t anything in this fight that will stop you.
