Baldur’s Gate 3is the ultimate RPG experience, as it’s literally a single-playerDungeons and Dragonsgame. Offering a multitude of class and race options, there is something new in every single playthrough.

Within the classes themselves are a handful of subclasses, focusing on different areas of expertise within the class itself.

Baldur’s Gate 3 bosses Lump The Enlightened, Ketheric Thorm, and Kagha.

Baldur’s Gate 3: 8 Boss Fights That Can Be Avoided With Charisma Rolls

In Baldur’s Gate 3, players have the ability to simply talk their way out of a fight, including boss fights. These are 8 boss fights.

Larian Studioshasreleased data detailing the most common decisions players have made, and this includes the most popular subclasses. They’re fun and deserving of love, but they’re not all that lingers in the game.

BG3 Warlock Subclasses are shown with the Archfey selected for greater crowd control

Some subclasses are critically underrated when it comes toBaldur’s Gate 3.They’re packed with fun content and a gold mine of ideas, they just need a little more love.

10Archfey Warlock

A Pact of Trickery and Fun

Main Class

Best Ability

Misty Escape

Best Passive

Cannot be Charmed

Warlocks are an incredibly unique class that basically has two different subclasses, each providing its own benefits and abilities. One set of subclasses arePact of the Tome, Pact of the Blade, and Pact of the Chain. Another yet just as crucialsubclass is selected during character creation, however, is their patron.

Each patron offers their own spells and features that players are able to utilise, and each provides their own specific dialogue. The Fiendis the most popular, according to Larian, and it’s the canon patron forWyll Ravengard.

The Archfey, however, is an incredibly powerful addition that isn’t talked about enough. It relies on mind tricks and hiding, offering abilities that can influence others and teleporting away from danger.

One of its best abilities, without a doubt, isMisty Escape, obtained atLevel 6– which turns players invisible if they take damage, and allows them toMisty Stepon the next turn once per short rest. Plus, with a tolerance to charming and beingCharmed, they’re an excellent option for players wanting to refresh how they play Warlock.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Astarion Arcane Trickster

9Arcane Trickster Rogue

An Extra Thieving Hand

Spellcasting

Magical Ambush

Rogueis an immensely powerful class with a high damage output thanks toSneak Attack, which is only amplified withsubclasses such as Assassin and Thief. Not many players talk aboutArcane Trickster, writing it off as a weak subclass – but that’s simply because it’s not being used to its full potential.

Arcane Trickster offers endless options for being a rogue out in the world, relying on creativity outside of combat to embrace the subclass namesake. With the addition of spell slots and cantrips, attacks and actions are enhanced with buffs.

College of Swords Bard Baldur’s Gate 3

This subclass includesMage Hand, an extra, invisible, magical hand that can get into hard-to-reach places. The spell options are also supplemental, assisting with stealth, speed, or debuffing enemies.

The Arcane Trickster is an ideal subclass for people who enjoy playing support, since it requires a lot of flexibility and creative thinking, but the end results are – no pun intended – absolutely magical.

8College of Swords Bard

Fighter, But With Style

Defensive Flourish

Extra Attack

Bardis one of the most fun classes to play, especially considering howoverpowered Charisma is in the game. It’s perfect for aTav, since they’re doing all the talking.

But with theCollege of Swords, they’re doing the fighting to back it up.

Baldur’s Gate 3: Best Romances for The Dark Urge, Ranked

From Astarion to Shadowheart, these are the best romance choices for Dark Urge in Baldur’s Gate 3.

The College of Swords is a fantastic blend of Bard andFighterwithout the need to multiclass, with flourishes and extra attacks working the same way maneuvers would for aBattle Master.

Plus, it still allows access to the fun spells andBardic Inspirationfonts, meaning that there will never be a single boring battle.

7Eldritch Knight Fighter

Supplement Attacks With Magic

Weapon Bond

The Eldritch Knightsubclass forFighterworks similarly toPact of the Blade Warlocks, binding weapons to the wielder so that they may never be disarmed. However, unlike a Warlock, they can cast more than two spells per battle.

Eldritch Knights pull from theWizardspell list, which offers defensive options, such asShield. One way to build an Eldritch Knight is to have spells be entirely defensive or supplemental, to be used as a buff while dealing attacks with weapons.

That’s the thing with Eldritch Knight, though, is that there are many different possibilities for how to build one, and they are all loads of fun.

Plus, at Level 7, players are able to attack as a Bonus Action after casting a cantrip thanks to theWar Magicfeat, and it unlocks an entirely new (and lethal) playstyle.

6Storm Sorcery Sorcerer

Flight With Every Spell

Tempestuous Magic

Lightning/Thunder Resistence

Sorcerersare quite possibly the most powerful casters in the game, especially considering their spellcasting modifier is Charisma. With the sheer number of spell options alone, there are endless different builds.

Storm Sorcerersoffer something simple, yet absolutely crucial: uninterrupted movement.

Every single time players cast a Level 1 spell or higher, they receiveTempestuous Magic, which allows them to use a bonus action to fly 30 feet without provoking anyOpportunity Attacks.

This kind of movement, especially at early levels (even more especially on harder difficulties), is a must.

And of course, that’s not even considering all the bonuses to Lighting and Thunder spells.

5War Domain Cleric

Extra Attacks and Tough Damage

War Priest

Heavy Armour Proficiency

ForClericmains that want to get the most out of their attacks and damage (or for players that have just had enough ofShadowheartmissing every shot), theWar Domainis fantastic.

Due toClerics having so many subclasses, it’s easy to overlook the War Domain for iconic domains such asTempestandLife. However, the War Domain is quite literally built differently, and built to fight.

Baldur’s Gate 3: 10 NPCs We Wish We Could Romance

There are a variety of romance options in Baldur’s Gate 3, but there are a few NPCs in the game that we wish we could still romance.

TheWar Priestability allows War Clerics to have up to three extra attacks for a bonus action, which is one of the only ways to get more than one attack before Level 5.

Combined with spells likeSpirit Guardians, and suddenly the Cleric is the deadliest person in the room.

This kind of Cleric is an absolute tank, withHeavy Armour ProficiencyandGuided Strikemaking it nearly impossible to miss an attack roll. Finally, Shadowheart will be able to hit something.

4Hunter Ranger

Death From Above

Selected by the Player

Rangerstend to be an underrated class overall, in both Baldur’s Gate 3 and in D&D itself. TheHunter subclass, while beloved in the tabletop, seems to be even more underrated in this game.

The damage output from this subclass is, to put it simply: completely insane. This isn’t even taking specific items or weapons into account, either, since the Hunter is literally designed to kill any type of creature, no exceptions.

Special abilities such asHorde Breakerallow for more than one enemy to be attacked at once, and once the AOE attackVolleyis introduced, it’s a game-over for enemies.

3Divination Wizard

See Into The Future

Portent Die

Divination Spell Costs are Halved

Canonically,Gale Dekariosspecializes in the art of Illusion — but, with the Divination subclass forWizard, he would be able to specialize in the art of the future itself.

Divination Wizardsare able to see into the future and change it, for better and for worse, through the use ofPortent Die. They will be able to see an enemy dice roll and make them fail, or vice versa, where they see an ally (or themselves) fail a dice roll and change it to a success instead.

Plus, as they level up, Divination Wizards are able to regain Portent Die by completing a set of prophecies per short rest, allowing for an endless amount of alterations in the timeline.

By end-game, they’re able to also gainDarkvisionandSee Invisibility— so at this point, what can’t they see?

2Wild Magic Barbarian

Restore Spell Slots and Sow Chaos

Bolstering Magic

Magic Awareness

TheBarbarianis a fun and chaotic experience withevery subclass, with most players choosing to buildKarlachas aBerserkeror aWildheart. However,Wild Magicis hysterical, especially when there’s another caster in the party.

Every time Wild Magic Barbarians enter aRage, they trigger a random magical effect. Unlike theWild Magic Sorcerer, however, most of these effects actually benefit the party.

Baldur’s Gate 3: 10 Most Evil Dark Urge Choices

The Dark Urge has a plethora of evil choices in Baldur’s Gate 3. These are the worst.

Plus, as they level up, they gainBolstering Magic, which allows the Barbarian to help ally casters by restoring one of their spell slots. This is incredibly helpful, and it’s also hilarious seeing Karlach literally sniff out a spell slot.

The party gains tons of benefits from the Wild Magic Barbarian, all while they’re wrecking havoc on the battlefield. Do they even know what’s about to happen? Absolutely not, but that’s all part of the fun.

1Circle of Spores Druid

Harness The Power of Decay

Halo of Spores

Symbiotic Entity

Without a doubt, theCircle of the SporesDruidis the most underrated subclass in the entire game — for how incredibly powerful it is, it’s not praised enough, and it’s often overlooked as the"Next New Game" subclass.

Play this subclass in your next new game. Seriously, it’s all the fun of a Necromancer Wizard build but getting into the root of death and decay itself.

ThroughSymbiotic Entity,Halo of Spores, and all the other types of spores that can be used in combat, the Circle of the Spores is devastatingly powerful. Plus, it allows players to reanimate corpses as undead allies, which is handy when a battle requires strength in numbers.

It’s a subclass that deserves so much more love than what it gets. But, if nothing else, theMyconidsunderstand and appreciate the Circle of the Spores, so thankfully they’ve got fans somewhere, even if it’s inthe Underdark.

Baldur’s Gate 3: 10 Best Honour Mode Builds

Honour Mode is a brutal challenge to new and veteran players of Baldur’s Gate 3. These are the best builds to help get through it.
