Beastars, the famous coming-of-age fantasy manga by Paru Itagaki, began serializing in September 2016. Soon, it became famous and received an anime adaptation in October 2019, which is currently ongoing. Itagaki has been extremely private regarding her personal life and has never revealed her face. She always wears a chicken mask, which is also her mascot, at all public appearances.

However, the truth about her heritage was hidden long after her debut as a mangaka. It was only in 2018, two years afterBeastarsdebuted that Japanese tabloids reported that Paru Itagaki is the daughter ofKeisuke Itagaki, author ofBaki the Grappler. The mangaka ofBeastarsconfirmed the rumors in 2019in a joint interview with her father.
In this interview, she explicitly stated that she did not wish to disclose who her parents were until she was well-established in the manga industry. This was a deliberate move on her part so that she did not catch any unnecessary allegations of nepotism in the industry.

Paru Itagaki intentionally hid her relationship with Keisuke Itagaki out of fear of nepotism accusations.
