Actors really do have a hard life. Besides facing embarrassing moments in real life, they also have to act for embarrassing situations for the screens as well. And Tom Hiddleston, one of the finest and most beloved actors of all time, was no exception to this rule.

Tom Hiddleston as Loki in the MCU

Especially while shooting the first-ever film of theAvengersfilm series from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Although he may have played the primary antagonist in the movie, he too, had some critically embarrassing moments, like when he got‘Hulk-Smashed’at the end of the film.

And the worst part about it all? The cast forThe Avengersdecided to keep him in the dark about how and when they were going to shoot the very scene that has come to be known as Hiddleston’s character’s most humiliating moment in the MCU.

2012’sThe Avengershad an iconic scene at the very end where Tom Hiddleston’s“puny god”Loki gets smashed byMark Ruffalo‘s Hulk like a rag doll. As humiliating as that scene was for the character, it was shot equally difficultly. And surprisingly for Hiddleston.

As theLokistar explained during an interview withEntertainment Weekly:

“I had a piece of wire tied to my ankle and there was a mat on the floor, which was out of shot, and three of the strongest stunt guys holding the wire at the other end, behind the camera.”

So when Loki started taunting the Hulk by calling him a“dull creature,”the stunt guys were the ones who pulled the scene off. However, to do it most immaculately, they decided to keep Hiddleston in the dark about when they would tug the wire and slam him around on the mat.

Thus, the reaction that Hiddleston’s Loki has in that scene after being bashed around like a rag doll was actually his real reaction. As he continued to share:

“The experience of being yanked out of frame was one I will not forget in a hurry.”

Turns out, not only was Loki humiliated onscreen, but his real-life actorTom Hiddlestonwas embarrassed by the same in real life as well!

Tom Hiddleston Faced A Lot Of ‘Hulk-Smash’ For Some Years Following

While the whole part about Tom Hiddleston being kept in the dark byThe Avengerscast is rather hilarious, it did end up making the scene look as real as was genuinely possible; especially Loki’s reaction after being banged around.

But what’s more hilarious than that is the fact that Hiddleston had to bear with the humiliation for a lot of time more than just the release of the film. As he continued to share with Entertainment Weekly:

“For about two years after that, I couldn’t go through airports anywhere in the world without somebody kind of going, ‘Hey, Mr. Loki, I love it when you get Hulk smashed.’ And they would do the whole [Hulk-Smashed] thing. [Laughs] So, it became a bit of a thing in a fun way.”

Well, Tom Hiddleston may have been humiliated by that one scene for quite some time, but at least his character could be redeemed inLokiseason 2 as he becomes the most powerful being in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe! (Oops, spoiler alert for whoever still hasn’t seen it!)
