Marvel’s first family is finally making its way to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Pedro Pascal starring as one of Marvel Universe’s most brilliant minds, Reed Richards. Known for his versatility and ability to bring nuance to every role, fan expectations are certainly sky-high to witness him playing Mr. Fantastic.

Pedro Pascal in The Last of Us

While it is exciting to imagine Pascal as Reed Richards, albeit being in a different universe than the main timeline, it is just as exciting to imagine him playing one of the most villainous versions of Reed Richards, The Maker. However, given how bold Marvel Studios is, it is unlikely we will ever get to see Pascal as the deadly multiversal villain.

Marvel won’t have Pedro Pascal play this version of Reed Richards

It is the first time that theFantastic Four will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Marvel Studios is unlikely to take the bold decision of makingPedro Pascaltake on the mantle of the most villainous variant of Reed Richards.

Debuting in 2004’sUltimate Fantastic Four #1and later as The Maker inUltimate Fallout #4, this variant of Richards is not only the most sinister version of the brilliant hero but also a multiversal-level threat.

The evil version of Reed Richards from the Marvel Comics

Reed Richards’ descent from a potential hero to an ultimate threat has been depicted in a trilogy of miniseries:Ultimate Enemy, Ultimate Mystery, andUltimate Doom, and the character was created by writers Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Miller, and artist Adam Kubert.

Hailing from the ‘Ultimate’ Universe, this version of Reed Richards takes a dark turn after suffering from several traumas and setbacks.

Faking his own death at one point and blowing up his own family, this version of the iconic hero becomes a tyrant and a manipulator of science and reality itself in his pursuit of power.

While his genius and brilliance remain intact, instead of the heroic, noble, and problem-solving Richards we know, the Maker uses his intellect for domination over the universe, culminating in his transformation into a multiversal-level threat.

The Maker from Marvel Comics

While Pedro Pascal is more than capable of bringing such a character to life and would be an ideal fit for this menacing, sinister version of Reed, the MCU is sure not to take such chances in eitherThe Fantastic Four: First StepsorAvengers 6.

Even though Marvel is capable of mapping out his back story in the upcomingFantastic Fourflick and transforming him into the Maker by the timeAvengers 6comes around, given his involvement in the comic book event ofSecret War, the MCU will not take this chance.

Pedro Pascal and Fantastic Four Exist in the Same Timeline as the Single Greatest X-Men Movie in Fox History – Theory

The Maker is one of the most sinister Marvel characters of all time

While the larger Marvel Universe has no shortage of evil and sinister, The Maker is one of the most sinister Marvel characters of all time. A testament to what a mind like Reed Richard can achieve when left unchecked and twisted by ambition and ego, The Maker has committed several barbarous acts.

Unlike the heroic Richards we know as Mr. Fantastic in the Marvel Universe, this version of the character embraces his genius unabashed and uses it to manipulate and dominate the multiverse.

Born out of entitlement and trauma, the Maker is not just a mere villain but rather a master of science and technology who possesses the ability to bend reality to his will, reshaping entire worlds according to his vision of ‘perfect’ order.

But what truly makes him an ‘Ultimate’ villain is that his villainy is rooted in a sense of superiority and detachment from humanity as a result of his trauma and later setbacks in life. Wanting to create a ‘perfect’ world, he challenged the very ideals that his other noble variants uphold, freedom and justice.

Even willing to destroy entire worlds and alter timelines to create his perfect vision, the Maker is an expected strategist and manipulator on top of having immense physical power. Thus, his actions in the comics demonstrate that he is one of the most terrifying figures in the Marvel Universe.

The Fantastic Four: First Stepswill be in theatres on 22 August 2025.
