The Mourner is a more nuanced Shinbakufu questline that has particular relevance for Yasuke. As with most other assassination missions inAssassin’s Creed Shadows, facing your final target requires you to first complete a number of side missions, first.

Time to unmask your next victim.
How to begin the Mourner’s quest path:
To begin the Mourner questline, you must first completeMibuno Showdown, which concludes Act 1 of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. After this, check your Objectives Board, navigate to the Shinbakufu screen, and select “A Talk with a Lady” under the Mourner section.
The Omi region is northeast of Yamashiro, dominated by a large lake. If you have a scout, dispatch oneto the Goshiki Outlands to mark Oichi’s location. Otherwise, head to the town of Nagahamaby the northern end of the lake and travel along the northeastern path until you come across Odani.

Instead of Lady Oichi, Yasuke first meets a naginata-wielding bodyguard named Kuma. After speaking with him, you’ll be escorted to Lady Oichi. While your dialogue choices with Oichi can be freely roleplayed, they don’t alter the course of the story.Completing this meeting unlocks three other quests that must be finished before you can confront the Mourner directly.
Nagahama Black Powder
Return to Nagahama, where the Shinbakufu plot to destroy a local Teppo factory. The factory is found on the western side of town.Use yourobserveabilityor eagle vision to track the movement of patrolling guards, avoid detection, and find the clue atop a wooden platform near the factory’s southwestern wall. You can reach it easily by circling around the outside of the factory and climbing the wall to avoid guards.
Once you have what you need, your attention turns to a massive gunpowder ship docked nearby. This ship is hard to miss—it looms just off Nagahama’s shore. Swim or commandeer a small boat from the docks and climb aboard. To complete the mission, you’ll need to secure a Horokubiya bombfrom a locked room on the top deck, which is patrolled by several guards.

If you’re aiming for a stealthier approach, consider climbing through the room’s window to silently eliminate the lone guard inside. Then, vault out and shimmy along the ship’s exterior to reach the bow. There, you’ll see a bunch of red pots, where you’ll need to plant your bomb. Once it’s in place, retreat to a safe distance, trigger the explosion, and make your escape as the ship goes up in flames.
Alternatively, you can opt for a more direct approach with Yasuke. Leap aboard, take down the guards, and proceed methodically through the ship. While there’s no special reward for eliminating the crew, clearing the ship makes it easier to loot treasure chests before finishing the mission.

A Prayer for Omi
As Yasuke, hop on a horse and use the game’s pathfinding feature to automatically navigate to Lady Oichi’s location at Isakiji Temple’s pier. Oichi will be by Isakiji Temple’s pier. Speak, and then escort her across the water to the Shirahige Shrine, where Yasuke will be tasked with completing a number of purification rituals.
The rituals are fairly straightforward: follow the blue quest markers, and interact with each location to complete the task. These include:

Finishing these rituals awards Yasuke with thelegendaryAmaterasu’s Blessingamulet, along with a weapon engraving that increases damage output based on how many ability slots remain unused. Return to Oichi after completing the rituals to trigger a cutscene. If you’re interested in pursuing a romantic storyline, you can select the dialogue option marked with a heart icon that reads, “I would spend my last night with you.” The mission then ends.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Gennojo Questline Guide
Recruiting Gennojo requires non-cannon decisionmaking during his quest path. Here’s how to get this missable ally in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.
The Price of Rice
The third leg of the Mourner questline, “The Price of Rice,” takes you to the Shimmering Fields between Azuchi and the Mouth of Seta. There, in front of a hilltop house overlooking a canal, you’ll find Kuma waiting. He explains that a corrupt Daikan (a regional governor) is extorting the farmers and hoarding rice. Kuma can’t help (of course), so it’s up to you to sort this out as quietly as possible.
Follow the objective marker to a group of disgruntled farmers. They’ll inform you of a drunken samurai ruining their fields. The samurai is no joke. He can’t be killed by an assassination prompt, although it will still take off a chunk of his health. Defeating him rewards Yasuke with a rare katana.

Keep an eye out for red-glowing unblockable attacks and blue-glowing flurry moves. You can parry the flurry, but getting hit by even one strike can be fatal. Timing your defense is key to survival.
After the battle, the farmers will reveal the Daikan’s location: a riverfront mansion just north of Azuchi’s merchant district. The mansion’s front entrance is heavily guarded, but look for a broken section along the right-hand wall—it serves as a convenient infiltration point for those favoring a quiet approach.
The Daikan himself won’t stand and fight. If he spots you, he’ll flee, making it essential to eliminate his guards before going after him— unless you may get the drop on him quietly.Naoe is an excellent choice here due to her silent takedown capabilities. Once the Daikan is dealt with, report back to Kuma to complete the mission.
The Wheel Unmasked
You’ll find your allies waiting at a shrine east of Shiotsu in Omi. Climb the shrine’s steps and look to your left just before reaching the top; you’ll notice a kunai on a stone railing overlooking the village below. Interact with it and choose to “Wait” to trigger the mission.
Naoe and Yasuke split up for the investigation, but you can only pick one route.. Naoe wants to search an inn used by the Shinbakufu, while Yasuke sets out to investigate their ship in the harbor. Both options are equally balanced in terms of difficulty, so your decision should depend on your preferred playstyle.
The Naoe Route
As Naoe, head to where the river splits in the village and use yourobservationskill to locate a samurai at an inn. There are a couple guards, but you’re able to evade them without too much difficulty by using the town’s rooftops. Assassinate the samurai to uncover the Mourner’s whereabouts, then rendezvous with Yasuke for the quest’s final phase.
The Yasuke Route
If you choose Yasuke’s route, head toward the town’s harbor. There, you’ll find two key pieces of information—one on the Harbormaster himself, and another in a document located in his office. This path doesn’t require killing your target, but it does involve fighting off his heavily armed guards. Once the area is secure, question the Harbormaster and regroup with Naoe to complete the mission.
Beginning the next phase locks you out of side content until the assassination attempt is over. Be sure to gear up and finish any other objectives before proceeding.
Assassinating the Mourner
The final assassination mission against the Mourner takes place under the cover of night, making it ideal for players who favor stealth. Naoe can navigate the area using underwater tunnels and tall grass, slipping past most of the Mourner’s guards. By contrast, Yasuke storms the beach. If taking the Yasuke route, it’sbest to fight the mourner’s soldiers piecemeal, taking on one isolated group at a time to avoid becoming overwhelmed.
Just before the Mourner’s hiding spot, you may encounter another corrupt Daikan known as The Hoarder, a target tied to the ‘An Education’ side quest. Fortunately, he offers no resistance and can be killed effortlessly. Once the path is clear, interact with the front building to trigger the final cutscene.
Regardless of your choices during this sequence, the Mourner will survive. At the end of this major questline, Yasuke receives the Myth Slayer, a sword once wielded by Nobunaga himself. Each mission along the Mourner path alsogrants 1000 XP.
