In a recent interview, game director Simon Lemay-Comtois shed some light on the development process and revealed major details about new gameplay mechanics and interactions. He shared that the team aimed to pay homage to the iconic katana by integrating a new slicing tech feature into combat and open-world interactions to create a more immersive experience.

There are so many aspects to it, but for the destruction in particular, we really wanted to pay homage to the katana. You can slice through rocks, according to legends, so we developed some slicing tech.

Lemay-Comtois further explained that the development team wanted to harness the power and capabilities of current-gen technology to push the boundaries of realism and immersion inShadows.
By doing so, they introduced unique environmental features, such as realistic seasonal changes. Players can now experience snow that accumulates over time naturally and sakura petals that move dynamically with the wind, creating a vivid and lived-in world that feels real and breathing.
