Ubisoft’s upcomingAssassin’s CreedMirage recently receivedits first official trailer, and following that, pages for the game went up on several storefronts. Discussions sprung up throughout the internet due to certain store listings, includingXbox’s, displaying the game with an 18+ Adults Only ESRB rating, due to Intense Violence, Blood and Gore, and Real Gambling.
Adults Only ratings are rare; they are often only reserved for games containing extremely graphic and unsettling violence or overtly sexual content. Due to gambling laws present in North America, games that allow online gambling with real money are also rated Adults Only.

No Assassin’s Creed title has ever gone past the 17+ Mature rating, so it was surprising for many to see it on Mirage, especially because of the listed reasons. It was unclear why what was known to be a single-player action-adventure game would have a real gambling component within it. Many feared it was the result of some unknown monetization model that would spoil the overall playing experience. Thankfully, Ubisoft spoke toEurogamerto clear the air.

The publisher stated that the game’s ESRB rating is actually still pending. It claims store listings “mistakenly displayed” the Adults Only tag, and though the rating has yet to be decided by the ESRB, the publisher can confirm that Assassin’s Creed Mirage will have “no real gambling or lootboxes.” Ubisoft didn’t go into any detail about how this mistake took place, but it’s undoubtedly a big relief for any fan that felt concerned. Indeed, theXboxstorefront has since been updated and now states Mirage’s rating is pending.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the next title to come for the famed series, and many are rejoicing as it’s reportedly going to be a return to the franchise’s roots. It has beenrelayedthat this title would discard the complex RPG mechanics and sprawling open areas that are present in the newer titles, and would instead try to create a more tight and concise single-player experience, focused on stealth and assassinations. This was partly confirmed by the game’s Narrative Director, Sarah Beaulieu, who stated that the team wanted to bring the series back to an action-adventure style. The game’s main character will be Basim, who will transform from street thief to Master Assassin in the streets of 9th century Baghdad.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set to release 2023 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
