Star Warsis one of the biggest fandoms of all time, comprising fans from all walks of life. While the space-opera universe, even during the days of George Lucas, has catered to all kinds of fans, a faction of toxic fans have always found something or the other wrong with its many projects, films, and series.

This toxic faction has gained an added edge during this age of the internet, leading to intense backlash and excessive hate campaigns. The most recent example of this has been the cancelation ofThe Acolyte, a series that sought to introduce a new storyline set within the larger universe ofStar Wars. And Lucas already foresaw this decades ago.
George Lucas Warned Us About ToxicStar WarsFandom Ages Ago
Goerge Lucasis the creator ofStar Wars, the reason why the space-opera fantasy world exists in the first place. Despite his humongous contribution to the field of entertainment, Lucas is also surprisingly one of the most hated figures within theStar Warsfandom.
So while Disney might be somewhat worthy of the backlash it has received since it acquired Lucasfilm, much of the hate has been from the toxic faction of the fandom which apparently has nothing better to do than ‘hate’. Claiming to fight for the future of the Lucas-created fantasy world, these fans often forget that such a future might not even exist thanks to their intense reactions, which often involve blatant racism and sexism.

From not accepting otherStar Warsmediums as canon to disregarding any new stories or plots, these fans are quick to dismiss pretty much everything new or old the franchise has done in recent years. This excessive hate allegedly became a major reason why Disney’s latest series,The Acolytewas canceled, despite it having one of the bestStar Warsvillains of all time.

However, this hate is not new and has existed even when Lucas was at the helm. Furthermore, Lucas already predicted this decades ago in 1999 (seeYouTube), and loyalStar Warsfans agree with Lucas’ old statement citing that the toxic faction of the fandom is getting too out of hand lately.
Star WarsFans Call Out Toxic Fans as George Lucas’ Old Statement Resurfaces
If there was a worst fandom award theStar Warsfandom would surely come on top. Despite claiming to be ‘supportive’ and ‘loyal’ fans of the franchise, a small minority of toxic fans have lately been the reason why the space-fantasy world has been failing in recent times.
“Star Wars fans are so ungrateful”: The Acolyte Trailer Achieves a Disappointing Milestone and It’s the Fandom That’s Being Blamed to be Too Toxic to Please
These toxic fans have found several reasons to hate Disney’s take on the mythos: hating new stories (The Acolyte) criticizing projects that draw from past work (The Force Awakens), comparing widely different projects (Skeleton CrewandAndor), criticizing projects catering to different audiences (Rebels),bullying actors for their race/portrayal/characters/project(Amandla Stenberg, John Boyega, Jake Lloyd, etc.), being inflexible to new vision, and much more.
This hate and backlash have become even more intense in recent years, even though Disney won’t acknowledge the impact these intense reactions have had on their projects. And afterThe Acolyte’scancelation,Star Warsfans’ condemnation of their own fandom has gained momentum.

Genuinely don’t know how these Star Wars bros think he would stand by their racism as if he’s not literally married to a black woman.https://t.co/uPiqA7MTKwpic.twitter.com/9kDdR0tZKc
I think Star Wars fans are the hardest people to please. And they don’t mind unloading every vicious thought that comes into their heads just because a movie or TV show wasn’t everything they wanted.

No doubt….Sometimes I wonder, how many are actually fans of Star Wars or just folks who don’t like Disney and some of the issues the company has taken up. Im talking about thethe anti-woke crowd who want trash everything Disney produces.
I think he was hurt by them long before he sold. It’s unfortunate that a small segment of bad apples have such a loud voice on here
Not only recent years.https://t.co/09mpSkeMNX
Pretty sure they’re the reason he sold. They were doing this to him before they were doing it to disney.
TheStar Warsfandom boasts a large and diverse fan base, comprising people of all ages. Yet a small minority of toxic fans continue to dominate, tearing apart George Lucas’ franchise and vision by their destructive ‘protective’ acts.
These intense reactions can not only destroy the franchise for good but also prevent real talent and worthy stories from ever being made. Thus tarnishing the entire fandom and franchise as a whole, it is the need of the hour for such fans to embrace diverse stories and characters while engaging in constructive criticism, rather than being the flagbearers of toxicity.
TheStar Warsfranchise is available to be streamed on Disney+.
