Arcaneis a beloved series that proved once and for allvideo gameadaptations don’t have to be horrible. They’re possible, they can be really good, and they’re here to stay. The show weaves an intricate story of political intrigue, institutional corruption, and the complex relationships between humans.

The show doesn’t feature that many characters. It is relatively grounded and keeps its cast list short but poignant. Each character on the screen feels real, their emotions jump through the monitor, and their actions are in line with their personalities.

10Heimerdinger

One of the oldest characters in the show who’s also perhaps the most childlike. His background in the runic wars left him traumatized and afraid of anything related to magic, explaining his skepticism and cynical attitude towards Jayce’s invention at the start of the show.

Because of the duality of his age, and immature and innocent behavior, Heimerdinger is an interesting character. He is also a playable character in League of Legends, so if you’re a fan of the game, Heimerdinger’s interactions are painted in a new light.

Heimerdinger

The main antagonist of the series, Silco, is the big baddie who takes away Jinx and uses her for his own goals. He was also the mastermind behind the enhancement drug, Shimmer, which circulates the market and has intense side effects.

He starts off in the season as a bad guy. However, his fate at the end, betrayed by the one he had come to love the most, and his actions thereafter, make it hard to see him in a negative light for long.

Silco

Even though he starts off as the lackey of one of the council members, Heimerdinger, Viktor is a man of great ambition. He dreams big and intends to do great things. Eventually, he even succeeds.

Viktor is the second scientist who helped make Hextech a reality, leading the Piltover’s prosperity and the greatest trade boom the city had ever seen. He is mostly shoved to the side and doesn’t come into the limelight because of his lackluster charisma. However, his contributions to the project are undeniable.

The financial situation of an individual doesn’t define them. Just because you’re poor doesn’t make you a villain. But just because you’re filthy rich, you don’t have to be a jerk, either. As the scion of one of the most influential and wealthy clans in Piltover, Caitlyn certainly doesn’t have anything to complain about. However, she wants to live life on her own terms and decides to pursue her dreams in the police force, much to the chagrin of her parents.

Caitlyn’s sheltered characteracts almost as a blank slate for the viewers to follow along with. She learns things alongside us and uncovers the rotting underbelly of the city. Her continued pursuit of the truth makes it easy to root for her, and her determination to go through with her desires despite the consequences makes her quite charming.

The father figure of many orphans in Zaun, the unassuming owner of a bar, the Hound of the Underground, and the leader of a previous rebellion, Vander is a multilayered man. After his failure to overthrow Piltover, which led to the deaths of many, Vander threw his ambitions aside in favor of raising the children he had indirectly orphaned.

Caitlyn

Rather than go after power and perceived greatness, Vander decided he had had enough and retired, leading to the events of the show. As a father, Vander is strict yet amicable at the same time. He loves all his children and encourages them to grow and try new things (even if those things might include robbing the upper city). His truce with the Enforcers is what helps keep the peace between the Zaun and Piltover.

Jayce is a visionaryand a risk-taker. If not for his ambition to build a kind of technology never seen before, Piltover wouldn’t be nearly as successful as it is today. A humble academy student at first, Jayce decides to go against the wishes of his Dean and ignores all warnings for the sake of progress. After Viktor joins him in his pursuit and they manage to make his dream a reality, Jayce becomes the poster child of the technology, even though Viktor had a big role in the invention as well.

Vander

Though his intentions are admirable and his personality is charismatic, the way Viktor gets sidelined because of this is unsettling and leaves a bad taste in the viewer’s mouth. Jayce goes on the become the eighth counselor, while Viktor essentially gets nothing of real value.

Originally nobody was willing to invest in Jayce’s dream. Following the lead of Heimerdinger, the rest of the council rejects his proposal at first. However, Mel takes a risk and helps Jayce out, directly resulting in the invention of Hextech and the revolution that follows.

As a person, Mel is extremely calm and collected. She knows what she wants, and she knows how to get it. In her own words, “the poorest Medarda,” Mel does everything she can to reach even greater heights and pushes the boundary of progress.

A minor character in the first episode who witnesses the kidnapping of Vander, Ekko later goes on to become a very resourceful individual leading a thriving community away from Silco’s drug empire in Zaun. Ekko is also a brilliant scientist, though his inventions are seemingly, for personal use only.

He uses the Zero drive, a time-reversing gadget, to gain an advantage in fights and win seemingly unwinnable situations. Furthermore, he also has a cool hoverboard which he rides in the under city to navigate without issues. Ekko’s character development was huge, and his impact on the series is just as big. Because of these factors, he’s probably the fan-favorite character, other than the main characters, of course.

The redheaded hothead and one of the main characters, Vi, is the elder sister of Jinx and the adopted daughter of Vander. She is caring to a fault and often comes off as abrasive, even when she’s trying to be nice. Her hotheaded personality leads her to become the protector of the undercity and take charge after Vander isn’t there any longer.

Without a doubt the most morally righteous character in the series, Vi is pretty easy to root for. She’s caring and understanding, she’s badass, and she still loves her sister to death even after all this time.

The child of the group and the one with the most to prove, Powder thinks of herself as a jinx because nothing ever goes right for her leading her to choose the name Jinx later on in the series. She almost got the crew caught during their heist. Her actions in trying to help rescue Vander inadvertently resulted in his death. Even after she joins Silco’s crew and goes on missions for him, something always seems to go wrong one way or the other.

Because of the intense trauma she’s been through, the death of her adoptive fatherand her sister’s assumed rejection, Jinx isn’t very mentally stable. Even at the best of times, she’s a flight risk, and when annoyed or mad, there’s no saying what she can do. However, it’s precisely this unstable personality and trauma that makes her so likable. Viewers can’t help but feel sympathy for the little girl’s plight and watch on, hoping things get better for her.
