AnApex Legendsfan believesEA, publisher ofRespawn Entertainment’s Battle Royale title, has used AI in one of the game’s recently released trailers. The trailer, which was released yesterday afternoon, is for the upcomingFinal Fantasy VII Rebirthcrossover event, scheduled to kick off this Tuesday.
Taking to the gaming subreddit earlier today, userkeereeyosbrought attention to the potential use of AI in the trailer. “EA is using AI art in the latest Apex Legends trailer, a game that made over $2 billion in revenue can’t pay for artists apparently,” the user said. But some believe that the potential use of AI isn’t as straightforward as it may seem.

“I don’t just corporations. Simple.”
The user then highlighted key moments from the above trailer that showcase numerous imperfections. They then inputted a still image from the trailer into an AI detector, which claims the image has a 97% chance of being AI-generated.

It’s speculated that the imperfections highlighted by the user are likely down to the use of AI. But as the use of AI becomes increasingly prevalent in the gaming industry, some are speculating that EA hasn’t simply generated a full image from AI and taken jobs away from developers.
Fans Explain Why AI Is The Future, Whether You Like It Or Not
The use of AI has always been a controversial topic, especially in the gaming community. Some believe it has no place in video games, whilst others believe it can be used to cut costs and aid developers.
Although the post in question has garnered almost 5,000 upvotes at the time of writing, many of the comments explain why this isn’t as simple as it seems, and likely the future of the industry. “I hate to break it to the people but there is no going back,“one usersaid. They went on to explain that “companies that will smartly use AI during game development will be able to make certain tasks cheaper and faster and therefore will be more efficient and that could lead to reduced budgets,” before stating that “the majority of players just don’t care.”

Many others shared the same sentiment. “Most people don’t really care about AI being used for this kind of stuff, especially since the majority of people won’t carefully examine trailers like that to observe artifacts,“one usersaid.
Another userwent on to explain how developers and artists simply use AI generation as tools now, stating that it has never been as simple as “write a prompt and push a button.” Instead, the user explained how AI generation is used for “templating, designboarding or even as a stepping stone inspiration,” calling it a “very early step in production.”

It’s uncertain whether EA has opted to use AI tools for the latest Apex Legends trailer, but given the increasing popularity of AI, fans should expect to see more and more of it in the months and years to come.
