Kendrick has been vocal about her disturbing past relationship, claiming that she was in an abusive relationship for seven years. The actress has reportedly spoken about how she felt unsafe in her own home while living with her boyfriend at the time and she could not define it as an abusive relationship because it did not look like a typical one (viaPeople).
In a recent appearance on theCall Her Daddypodcast, Kendrick mentioned that there were times when her partner made her feel like she was the abusive one, and even she believed it. She said,
He told me one day I was terrorizing him because I was crying and I couldn’t pretend that things were fine anymore….Sometimes it was so emotional, like, ‘Anna, I’m begging you. You’re ruining everything’. It was so real for him.
Kendrick mentioned that the fact that her partner believed that he was the victim made her feel unsure about her own situation in the relationship as she felt that she would see it if he was faking it.

Anna Kendrick opened up about her abusive relationship with an ex during the release ofAlice, Daring, which also dealt with similar themes. The actress told People magazine that the script came to her when she had just gotten out of that relationship and she did not want anyone to tell her not to do it.

Kendrick toldThe Independentthat she had told her agents that she could not perform for a while and was not interested in the usual comedy films she was known for.
I think what was happening at that time was I was being forced into a place of performance and dishonesty in my private life. I just couldn’t spend another second breathing dishonest air.
Kendrick also revealed that she revealed everything to a plumber who had visited her home and asked her how she was doing.
