Director Hideo Kojima has been hailed as the auteur of video games and earned the respect of the gaming community and his colleagues within the industry. Working on games is not for the faint of heart but Kojima finds satisfaction in delivering complex narratives with a deep connection to humanity.

The director feels more safe and fulfilled working on original projects after he left his previous company.

The director has contributed greatly to the game industry, recognized the work of others throughout his career, and given them their fair share of the spotlight. Kojima’s humility is among his strongest character attributes and not once did he think of himself as above others making the director more endearing.

“People will have different experiences”: Unlike Rise of the Ronin, Hidetaka Miyazaki Refuses to Implement 1 Feature into His Soulslike Franchises

In my experience, I always end up telling creators I meet to be their own producer. you may’t make what you want otherwise. Directors I know in the film business, such as Nicholas Winding Refn and Guillermo del Toro, they both produce their own movies. Yes, you should of course find a good producer who understands your proposals, but it’s not that easy.

He further stated:

When I create in particular, I think it’s best for me to manage the business side of things too, including promotion. I think there aren’t many people like that in the Japanese games industry these days, although I’d say Mr. Miyazaki [of FromSoftware] is out there working hard.

Kojima gave credit to director Hidetaka Miyazaki, a fellow Japanese game director and CEO of FromSoftware that primarily works on Soulslike games, and recognized that there are not a lot of Japanese game developers out there. Miyazaki’s style of game development is distinctly different from Kojima’s, however, each of their projects appealed to the gaming community.

Elden Ring was a massive triumph for the Soulslike genre.

“It made me tear up, even now, he’s still a hero”: Hideo Kojima’s Deadpool & Wolverine Review May Be His Best Yet, and Shows His True Nerdy Roots

The director fondly remembershis time working onBloodborneand contributed greatly to its success. The Soulslike genre is not meant for everyone, however, that did not stop Miyazaki from making great games and carrying over mechanics to future projects.

These directors are carrying the game industry in unique ways. Fans are eager to see where they will go next. Kojima and Miyazaki are distinctly different but share the same objective. Making video games is a cut-throat business and those with the strongest wills can flourish.
