Clove,Valorant‘s first non-binary Agent, was added to the game in late March and instantly became popular among the community because of their unique abilities. At the time of this character’s release, Dan Hardison, Agent Gameplay Designer at Riot Games, explained that this character was added to the game specifically for aggressive Controller players.

Roughly one month after its release, Riot Games has announced that Clove is getting reworked in the next patch along with characters like Iso, Neon, Reyna, and Raze. Given how strong Clove is, people often forget that they belong to the Controller class, so Riot Games has now trimmed off Clove’s Duelist-oriented outputs to make them more Controller-like.
Clove was added toValorantfor aggressive Controller players
In an interview withBeebom, Dan Hardison, Agent Gameplay Designer at Riot Games talked about Clove,Valorant‘s 25th agent who was added to the game in late April 2024. Hardison explained that Clove was designed in such a way that they work well with Controller players who prefer an aggressive style of play,
When adding a new agent to the game, we often think of gaps within the player experience – For Clove, we identified early on into the process that we felt like aggressive controller players had limited characters to play within the controller roster, and wanted there to be more choice competition and variety within that space.

Hardison highlighted that Clove is for brave players who wish to “make a difference early on into rounds.” Clove’s Duelist-oriented abilities and Ultimate quickly made them a popular character among the community but Riot Games has now decided to make some changes to the character.

This change has left the community wild and it’s safe to say that Raze fans are not happy with this update. In the coming weeks, it is expected that Neon will become a popular character, given how good Riot Games has made the character now.Due to a recent controversy, Riot Games has also introduced a hardware ban to get rid of toxic players within the community.
