Assassin’s Creed Shadowscomes with a lot of promise, introducing two new characters as the protagonist. As with every subsequentAssassin’s Creedgame, Ubisoft is introducing new mechanics to the game that will make the gameplay experience more enthralling.

While fans are excited about the new challenges that lie ahead, recent news about how the climbing works in the game has left many scratching their heads. Many fans have also criticized this decision by Ubisoft and have even called it a backward move.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Proves There is Always a Catch With Ubisoft Game
TheAssassin’s Creedseries has always promoted stealth gameplay, and climbing different structures has been an integral part of it. It’s basically a forgone conclusion that anAssassin’s Creedgame will allow players to scale walls and parkour in various ways.
“Maybe this is their strategy”: Ubisoft’s Supposed Controversial Assassin’s Creed Shadows Character Yasuke May Only be in the Game to Cover for their Pricing, According to Asmongold
However, this all changes with the upcomingAssassin’s Creed Shadows. According to JorRaptor, Naoe, who is one of the two protagonists in the game, won’t be able to climb everything in sight. This update hasn’t been going well with the fans,as many labeling it as a “Classic Ubisoft move.”

It’s still unclear as to why this is the case since the protagonists in the recentAssassin’s Creedseries always could climb most structures. However, some fans believe that this could prove to be a more realistic take from Ubisoft, as not everything is climbable in real life.
Classic UbisoftOne step forward7 steps backwards

One reason behind the decision from Ubisoft to make such a move could be to give more prominence to the grappling hook. While climbing will have more limitations now, Naoe could utilize the grappling hook to make climbing easier.
Even The Stealth Identity of the Game Is Being Altered in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
It’s not just climbing that is taking the backseat in the new game. As mentioned before,Assassin’s Creedrevolves around stealth gameplay which is essentially changing a bit in the new game.Yasuke, the other protagonist in the game, will use brutal assassinations for the execution of his enemies, which defeats the whole purpose of stealth.
“I’m more concerned about the money they are asking”: Fans Waiting For Assassin’s Creed Shadows Have a Bigger Problem to Worry About Than a Black Samurai as Game’s Protagonist
Fortunately, there will be some perks available that can be used to make the assassinations less noisy, but it won’t ever go completely silent. When you take into consideration that everyone inAssassin’s Creed Shadowsrecognizes Yasuke and how he fights enemies, it makes the whole idea of stealth gameplay redundant.
This should not have been labeled as an “Assassins Ceeed” game. Should have been its own IPO.

Some fans have suggested that it would have been better if the game was a separate IPO from Ubisoft and not anAssassin’s Creedgame, as it challenges the core values of the franchise. Regardless, given that Ubisoft is already taking a new direction by introducing unconventional protagonists in the game, altering core mechanics might be the right move on their end.
Do you think limiting Naoe’s climbing capabilities will be a drawback for the game? ShouldAssassin’s Creed Shadowshave been a different IPO altogether? Let us know in the comments below.
