Apart from rap and chart-topping music, if Kanye West is known for something, it’s his provocative public statements. Often known for making bizarre remarks about politics and socioeconomic conditions, West has made headlines and raised eyebrows with his controversial comments, throughout his lengthy tenure in the industry.

So today, skimming through his obnoxious remarks and controversial opinions throughout the years, we’ve made a list of the 10 most shocking comments from Kanye West. Ranking them on the basis of least to most outrageous statements, let’s take a look at West’s jaw-dropping remarks that have sparked resentment, debate, and even career setbacks.
10. Denounced potential COVID-19 vaccine
Amid the chaos caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, while researchers worked day and night to develop vaccines,Kanye Westnot only made false claims about vaccinations but also expressed hesitancy in receiving one. In an interview withForbes, the rapper referred to getting vaccinated as “the mark of the beast”.
It’s so many of our children that are being vaccinated and paralyzed… So when they say the way we’re going to fix COVID is with a vaccine, I’m extremely cautious. That’s the mark of the beast. They want to put chips inside of us, they want to do all kinds of things, to make it where we can’t cross the gates of heaven.

Further, claiming that the COVID-19 vaccine would eventually allow the government and the system to “put chips inside of us”, West caused a surge in people’s hesitancy to take the vaccines against the backdrop of anti-vaccination sentiments.
9. The rapper doesn’t believe in racism
In November 2016, West went full-blown bipolar with his comments when he urged Black people to “stop focusing on racism” while clarifying that does not mean he did not “believe in Black Lives Matter”. According to reports from theWashington Examiner, the rapper mentioned that if racism was real, he “wouldn’t live in America”. Well, that’s not all, for he later toldClique TV,
Racism is a dated concept. It’s like a silly concept that people attempt to touch on… to separate, to alienate, to pinpoint anything, it’s stupid. … It’s something that was used to hold people back in the past, but now there’s been so many leaps and breaking of the rules that it’s played out, like a style from the 1800s.

So it seems that West doesn’t believe in racism. According to him, it’s just class and economic inequality that’s been holding people back. But what can you expect from a person who keeps on repeating “I’m also awesome” in his songs?
8. Michelle Obama can’t wear a swimsuit like Kim Kardashian
Back in 2013, while pitching Kim Kardashian as an obvious choice for a futureVoguecover story, the rap mogul dropped some of the most controversial comments surrounding the country’s then-official first couple Barack and Michelle Obama. Dissing their lack of fashion sense, West claimed that the first lady could never wear a swimsuit like Kardashian (viaVanity Fair).
Collectively, we’re the most influential with clothing. No one is looking at what [the president] is wearing. Michelle Obama cannot Instagram a [sexy swimsuit] pic like what my girl Instagrammed the other day.

Well,Voguemagazine certainly didn’t change their mind to call Kim Kardashian, but the rapper surely raised eyebrows with his remarks onMichelle Obama.
7. Ye claims he made Taylor Swift famous
While Kanye West is known for his controversial statements and his bizarre behavior, the rapper holds a separate record of causing distress to pop starTaylor Swift. Following West’s initial ambush during Swift’s acceptance speech for Video of the Year at the 2009 MTV VMA, the duo have had avolatile relationship.
“I just want his approval”: Taylor Swift Confessed Her ‘Obsession’ With Kanye West After He Publicly Humiliated Her in The Grammys
Further, to make things worse, West released his songFamous,in 2016, with controversial lyrics surrounding Swift. Claiming how he apparently made the pop star famous, the rapper suggested that he should be paid back with s-x for his efforts. The lyrics go on to say, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that bitch famous”.
6.Kanye West against abortion
Being a devout Evangelical Christian, Kanye West who has four kids of his own with his ex-wifeKim Kardashianhas been vocal about his stance against abortion. Believing in the Fifth Commandment: thou shalt not kill—West stated in a 2022 interview with Tucker Carlson, that he is Anti-abortion (viaYahoo).
It’s a photograph of a baby’s ultrasound… It just represents life. I’m pro-life… I don’t care about people’s responses, but I care about the fact that there are more Black babies being aborted than born in New York City at this point. That 50% of Black death in America is abortion.

Later on, during another interview on a podcast with Lex Fridman, West repeated the same claims. He once again stated that the majority of Black people’s deaths in America are caused by abortion. Well, many might not know, but the rapper had previously opened up about his and his ex-wife’s decision to abort their first child, North West Kardashian (viaCannon’s Class).
5. Deleted post about his s*xual interest in Kamala Harris
Despite his weird comments, West has never shied away from dropping his unsolicited political opinions on people. Therefore, while showering his unwavering praise for Donald Trump, the rapper made controversial remarks about former US Vice President Kamala Harris in a now-deleted post on X (via@MAGAgeddon).
I used to want to fck Kamala until she lost. I don’t fck losers anymore.
Claiming he had a s*xual interest inKamala Harrisuntil she lost the elections, the rapper once again proved that he can’t be controlled. Later on, West dropped anothertweetclaiming to be the boss of his own thoughts and actions, while being cryptic about why he deleted the post about Harris.
4. Kanye West called slavery a choice
Before any of his previous comments had a chance to simmer down, West caused another stir, calling slavery a “choice”. Appearing onTMZ Live, the rapper caused uproar with his provocative statements suggesting that people were enslaved for 400 years because they wanted to be.
When you hear about slavery for 400 years. For 400 years? That sound like a choice. You were there for 400 years and it’s all of y’all. It’s like we’re mentally imprisoned.
Later on, as his comments started going viral and catching heat online, West issued a barrage of tweets clarifying his opinions (viaCNN). Claiming how “slaves did not get shackled and put on a boat by free will”, but instead were enslaved for 400 years because they were “mentally imprisoned”, the rapper seemingly aggravated the situation further.
3. The rapper’s anti-Semitic messages on X
Among several of his outrageous claims, Kanye West has been known for his anti-Semitic comments. And it seemingly started in 2013 when he tried explaining why he believed thatBarack Obamahad problems pushing policies in Washington. Claiming that “Black people don’t have the same level of connections as Jewish people”, West seemingly offended people.
“I kind of admired him”: Ozzy Osbourne’s Past Video About Adolf Hitler Resurfaces as Prince of Darkness Calls Kanye West an Anti-Semite in Brutal Statement
And once it began, the cat refused to get into the basket. Since 2013 West has openly expressed his anti-Semitic thoughts and has experienced some severe consequences for his words. But despite that, the rapper didn’t hold back his opinions. Fromtweetingabout going “death con 3 on Jews” to suggesting that P Diddy is controlled by Jews, West even claimed that Margaret Sanger created Planned Parenthood “to control the Jew population”. (viaVice).
2. Openly announced his love for Hitler
Based on how Kanye West has repeatedly expressed his anti-Semitic views, it’s not surprising to know that he’s fascinated by Adolf Hitler, so much so that he once wanted to name an album after the Nazi leader. According to a business executive who worked for West, confided inCNNthat the artist created a hostile work environment, due to his “obsession” with Hitler.
He would praise Hitler by saying how incredible it was that he was able to accumulate so much power and would talk about all the great things he and the Nazi Party achieved for the German people.
The executive revealed during the October 2022 interview that West has spoken openly about readingMein Kampf, Hitler’s 1925 autobiographical manifesto, and even suggested the titleHitlerfor his 2018 album that eventually released asYe. Although West later denied the executive’s allegations, the rapper praised Adolf Hitler in December 2022, onInfoWars(viaTimes of Israel).
I see good things about Hitler. Every human being has value that they brought to the table, especially Hitler. I like Hitler.
While his comments undoubtedly reek of his bipolar personality, it’s hard to decide which side of West is real.
1. Denied holocaust and identified as a Nazi
After openly expressing his admiration for Hitler, Kanye West went on to call himself a Nazi. Urging people to stop hating the Nazis, West went as far as to deny the holocaust. Dropping cryptic comments about his bank “accounts have been frozen by the Jewish banks”, West claimed that it was “factually incorrect” that Hitler killed six million Jews (viaRolling Stone).
The Nazis did good things too. We gotta stop dissing Nazis all the time… The Jewish media has made us feel like the Nazis and Hitler have never offered anything of value to the world… [They] didn’t kill 6 million Jews; that’s just, like, factually incorrect… The Holocaust is not what happened. Let’s look at the facts of that. And Hitler has a lot of redeeming qualities.
By this point, all we can say is that West’s habit of spewing bizarre, offensive nonsense is almost predictable—but somehow, he still finds new ways to shock. While he seemed ignorant to praise Hitler, the rapper seemingly went delusional to deny the holocaust. But then again, this is Kanye West we’re talking about—the man who seems determined to prove that there truly is no limit to how low he can go.
